Saturdays at The Sound Garden were one of the busiest days of the week for record sales. The old nostalgia seemed to hit everyone during the weekend, likely brought on post-hangover for many of the patrons. For Elodie, it was another day doing a job that she knew she was lucky to have.
There had been a time in her life when she would have thought a life on the streets was the fate she was destined for. It was a time that seemed to be darker than the night and while her cynical outlook on the world hadn’t entirely changed, it had shifted enough to make a difference in her day to day living. More often than not she felt happy to be where she was; she had a place to live, a secure job, and had a plethora of old vinyls at her fingertips, just begging to be played.
The best part about being the person to open up the store was the fact that she got first choice on the music that day. Green Day blared through the speakers that were hung in the corners of the record store and as he sang, Elodie found herself swaying in time with the music, alternating between humming and singing along with the punk rock trailblazers. They were a band that had formed prior to her existence in the world, but that seemed to be the style of music that Elodie gravitated towards. She often wondered if that was something that made her an old soul because her music taste was so vastly different from the youth of today. Green Day, Bowie, Creedence Clearwater Revival… These artists and many more from the eighties and earlier filled her soul with such a wanting for something more than this mundane life. They also reminded her, however, of how fortunate she was to be at The Sound Garden. She got to listen to all of this music without having to do anything else.
At least nothing else outside of the shop. A new shipment of records sat in the middle of the floor, flanked by shelves that were stacked in some places and scarce in others. Weekends were a time to restock and while much of this would end up being done tomorrow, Ellie wanted to make a good amount of headway on it today - or that was at least the plan that she was trying to set into motion. The customers that continued to come in asking questions had put something of a damper on that, but who was she to tell them to fuck off? Something told her that wasn’t a response that her boss would take kindly to and considering how much the other woman had done for her already, Elodie wasn’t about to fuck things up.
As the bell above the door went off again, she didn’t look up from the pile of records that she was sorting through. ”Eighties and later to the left, earlier than that to the right. If you have any questions, just holler~”
Sirius wiped the palms of his hands on his jeans as he made his way to The Sound Garden. When he had started coming in here years ago, he had never really anticipated that he would feel nervous about going inside the record store; it was just a cool place to hang out and look through the various vinyls that were yearning for a home. That was before a certain blonde had started working there by the name of Elodie. From the moment that he had met her, a crush had begun to form that he hadn’t seemed to be able to rid himself of, not that he was really trying all that hard. She was funny, effortlessly so, with a good taste in music and a pretty face that made most people underestimate her. Not him, though. After all, he went to school with some pretty sweet and harmless looking kids, and there were some of them that possessed the ability to literally level the entire house that they were all living in if they put their mind to it.
It was because of Elodie that he was nervous every time he walked in the door to the record store. Over time, they had gotten to know each other decently well, or at least well enough that he had a pretty good grasp on her music tastes, but he had actually come here with something else in mind. Make no mistake, it was entirely possible that he would be leaving the store with a record, but that wasn’t his main aim.
He had every intention of asking out Elodie on a proper date. Just the two of them, somewhere that wasn’t the record store, or the Quarter Cafe, if he got his way.
Reaching forward, Sirius pulled open the door, already scanning for a familiar head of blonde hair before he heard her talk. His eyes flicked towards her immediately, and he couldn’t stop the smile that was tugging at the corner of his lips from the moment that he heard her speak.
“In all the years that I’ve been coming here, I don’t think that she’s changed the layout even once.” He let the door shut behind him, and made his way through the shelves, looking at the vinyls splayed out on the shelves before him, and had a feeling that he was going to be walking out of here with a much lighter pocket than he had walked in with. Thank god he had a job. He took a respectable amount of time working his way through the eighties section, his eyes lingering over the familiar titles and names of bands before making his way over to the gorgeous blonde currently shelving records. “Want a hand? Can’t be easy putting all of that away with people interrupting you every five minutes.” There was a kind smile on his face as he leaned against one of the shelves, his head tilted slightly to the side as he waited for an answer.
