Cora was conflicted as she made her way down towards the beach, her arms wrapped around her torso to help keep some body warmth against the wind. When it came to Lennox, she had a number of feelings floating around that were largely undealt with, and now she was being forced to deal with them, mostly because the boy that she had been crushing hard on had found out what he had done to her. To say that the result had been messy had been an understatement, and she had heard more than a few accounts about the fight that the pyrokinetic had started. In some ways, she was touched by Jaxon’s reaction. From the time that she was a little girl, she had heard stories about men who would fight for the honor of the women that they were in love with, and wasn’t that what he had done at the core of it all? However, there was another part of her that was fighting back against that idea, the part of her that didn’t need a man to fight her battles for her. She already had a feeling that Lennox thought of her as weak and pathetic and now, however unwittingly, Jaxon had contributed to that.
She hated that she felt this way. She could just say thank you, or tell him off, but she was split so evenly between the two reactions that she couldn’t decide if one or the other was the way to go. So when she had gotten the text, asking her to meet him down at the beach, for a moment she hadn’t even been sure that she was going to accept. In the end, she did; she had never been good at disappointing other people, and that was frustrating to her too. She knew that she should probably wait until she figured out how she felt about the whole thing before she saw him, particularly since she was almost guaranteed to melt the second that he looked her way… but her desire to see him had pushed against her better judgement, and she was too weak willed to stay away.
Plus, she needed to get out of Phalanx House for a while. She had been spending way too much time cooped up with her journal and lost in her own thoughts, and she knew that dwelling on things to the point that it screwed with her interactions with other people just… wasn’t healthy.
The second that Cora got to the edge of the pavement, she slid her feet out of her shoes and looked around, trying to figure out where exactly Jaxon even was. Before long, however, she figured it out; usually a bonfire was a pretty good indication that a pyrokinetic was near. Leaning down, she picked up the shoes that had adorned her feet, and tried to not shiver as she made her way through the cold sand towards where the fire was already blazing.
Cora saw Jaxon before he saw her, as far as she could tell. Whatever the case was, his back was to her as she made her way behind him, but she paused a few feet away from him, not wanting to scare him. Her heart was in her mouth, and a small smile that she hadn’t planned on making an appearance pulled at the corner of her lips as she took in the familiar sight of him. Already, she could feel the relative warmth of the fire burning before her, and she relished the warmth on her skin. “You know, for a minute there, I was a little worried that I wasn’t going to be able to find you out here.” Her cellphone, infamous for its terrible reception in Louisiana, was pretty much just an expensive piece of metal and plastic on this beach, but honestly that was almost better in a situation like this; she wouldn’t be distracted. When he turned to face her, she took in that mop of blonde hair, those dark brown eyes that she could only half-see in the darkness. “Hi.” Lame, Cora. Lame.
Jaxon Kane Davies| So this is a thing XD Let me know if you need more ♥
His first night at Phalanx was one that he still thought about constantly. He was alone, he was trying to find his siblings, he was having terrible nightmares about his time in prison. He went to the backyard of Phalanx and met the one and only Cora Marshall. Her curly blue hair, her sweet words, the mind boggling contradiction that someone so bright, so warm and kind, could control darkness. Jaxon smiled thinking about that night of lying in the grass looking at the stars. The perfect combination of their two powers. The darkness of space, burning balls of fire in stars. It was what sparked their friendship and the deep knowledge that he had a huge crush on Cora. They spent a lot of time together and that only grew more and more. The holidays, his siblings coming home, he was able to share all of that with Cora. She was so bright and someone who he found seeking out daily. Someone who he wanted to sit with and enjoy all of the greatest moments of his life.
So when she shared that she had dated this spoiled rich Primrose kid, he was a little jealous. When she told him that he had broken her heart into a thousand pieces, he was mad. When she told him that he started hanging around her work in order to harass her and to not so subtly hint at wanting a blow job in the bathroom, he was enraged. It really wasn't his fault that he sought out the speedster and it certainly wasn't his fault that when he found the Primbrat that his temper got carried away. Leaving Lennox on the ground, he knew that he fucked up. He knew that Cora was strong, and she was able to care for herself, and she was certainly able to fight her own battles. But he also couldn't help himself. He felt a connection to Cora, a protective possession where he knew that he had feelings for her.
It scared the hell out of him, cause there was no relationship he's ever had that could compare to this. Growing up he never chatted with girls in his class, he was thirteen when he was thrown in jail, and since then it was all about getting his siblings back in his life. He never learned how to be a boyfriend to someone. He never learned how to care for someone who he wasn't related to, but thankfully caring for Cora just came naturally to him.
He made his way to the beach, his knuckles still busted and bruised from the fight with Lennox. He had a feeling that she was going to find out about it soon enough, Lennox seemed like the whiny brat type to go cry about getting a justified ass beating. He spotted where his last bon fire with Cora had been. The two of them on the beach, talking about everything, curled up together. Jaxon told himself over and over that it was because it was cold out and this way they could talk better, but he also knew that it was because he never wanted to let her go.
The dried logs flamed to life with a glance from Jaxon and he settled down into the sandy beach. He wanted to be close to her, and on this beach in front of the fire, it was where he always felt the most connected with Cora.
Hearing her voice, he sat up straighter and grinned when he saw her. Her soft curls, her sarcastic smile, her kind eyes, he couldn't help but melt when he saw her. He grinned when she mentioned the infamously horrible cell service, "I'm happy you found me anyway." He sat up a little straighter, turning to face her. Damn she was beautiful. "Hi." he said back to her as lamely, he moved to the side, making room for her to join him by the bon fire. "Wanna sit with me?" He had no idea why she even bothered dealing with him sometimes.

There was a part of Cora that had wanted to get some kind of revenge on Lennox after what happened at the cafe a few weeks prior. It was just… the idea of him coming into her job, of not even hinting at the fact that he wanted her to give him a blowjob in the bathroom, of making her feel degraded to the point that she didn’t even want to go back to work that had made her angry. And apparently, some of those feelings had bled over into her conversation with Jaxon, when he had found her curled up on the roof, journal in hand, tears threatening to break surface tension and roll over her cheeks. She had ended up spilling out everything to him, about their relationship and the way that he had reeled her in, made her feel loved and appreciated… just to dump her after she told him that she loved him and slept with him for the first time. When the story was done, she had thought that she had seen the briefest flickers of rage in his eyes, but honestly? All she had wanted was for him to hold her, and maybe that had clouded her judgement. Maybe she had wanted him to care that much about her.
Seeing his grin was enough to make her melt, and the smile that was already on her face widened. He was way too cute for his own good, and every time that she managed to catch his eye, she found herself overwhelmed by the desire to be with him. He was just… a force of good, even through all the misfortune and hell that he had experienced, he was the kind of person who wanted to see good in the world, who didn’t let that define him and instead let it drive him; someone only had to look at his relationship with his siblings to see that.
“I’m starting to think that finding you is part of my ability to be honest.” Cora rubbed her hands over her arms, trying to fight the chill that was seeping into her skin and already wishing that she was closer to the fire. Thankfully, Jaxon always seemed to be really warm, and she was more than happy to curl up with him… for heat, she always said. It was just for the heat. But it was really for the weightless feeling that she got whenever he was around, for the shot of adrenaline that ricocheted through her veins every time his hand brushed against hers, for the smile that she couldn’t wipe away. She loved every second of being around him, it made her feel normal for the first time since she had started showing signs of her ability, all those years ago.
Jaxon made her feel giddy at every turn, and in spite of everything that had happened with Lennox, Cora found herself believing in love all over again She didn’t want to say that she loved Jaxon, she hadn’t known him long enough, but… there was something there. Something that she couldn’t explain. Something that she didn’t want to try to define because it already felt so undefinable. What she did know, however, was that he made her feel comfortable. Safe. Wanted in a way that Lennox’s filthy words hadn’t even made her feel when they were still dating. Sure, Jaxon made her feel desirable, but he made her feel like there was something beyond the physical, a companionship that she had been searching for. He made her feel all of that, and there was a part of her that craved that. There was also a part of her that was terrified by the prospect.
“Don’t I always?” Cora stepped forward, settling down next to him in the cool sand, maybe scooting in a bit closer than necessary. “So, um,” how did one even start this kind of conversation? Taking a breath in, she turned slightly to the side. “Do you have something you want to tell me about?” One of the witnesses to Jaxon absolutely destroying Lennox had uploaded a video to facebook, and it had spread like wildfire. Meaning that she had seen the full thing in detail, and while she hadn't been able to see the faces very well... she would be able to pick out both of those boys in a crowd any day of the week. Plus, Lennox's accent was pretty distinctive in a place like New Orleans. “Something maybe involving my douchebag ex-boyfriend that I told you about?”
Being around her made something spark inside of him. Made him want to be a better person and want to build a better life for himself and his family. Cora just had that positive attitude that made him feel electric. She made him want to make things better for her too, which was probably why he was so willing to track down Lennox MacfuckingAlistair. The smug little Primbrat who broke Cora's heart, so Jaxon felt compelled to break his face. In his mind, it was a fair trade, no matter how much he wanted to avoid getting arrested again. Lennox seemed like he bitch type that would run to the police over this.
It was that realization that probably should have stopped him from landing blows on the dark haired ass, but it was also that realization that he would go back to jail for someone who he cared about as deeply as Cora. Even if he wanted to stay out for his siblings even more.
"Controls darkness, and she can sleuth out a firebug on command. No wonder I can't resist you." Jaxon saw her rub her hands over her arms and sat up to take off the plaid flannel he was wearing and handed it over to her so she could keep warm. He had an idea of wrapping her up in his arms so they could both be warm, but he thought that was a little too bold. No matter how much he cared for her. "Unless, um, you wanna just come here?" they had sat together in front of fires before, and this was no exception. The only difference was the weight of him jumping Lennox hanging over them all. "Cause um without the jacket I'm a little cold too." he teased.
When she sat down, Jaxon moved a little so he would be able to wrap an arm around her, keeping them both warm. He looked at the fire, adding a little life to it to keep them both warm during what was sure to be a heated discussion about how Jaxon crossed boundaries, or how he was dumb for risking going back to jail, or anything like that. He heard Piper's voice in a loop in his head about how irresponsible he was for fighting in the street with someone when he just got out of jail, but he just couldn't handle knowing that there was some shit out there who hurt her.
"Yeah, I mean I could not tell you and keep this nice moment." He said, pulling her closer to himself so he could try to avoid the topic cause he knew that there was no way it could do that was going to result in Jaxon looking positive. He would come across like some barbarian who wouldn't let her fight her own battles. "Rather than talking about your douchebag ex who screams like a bitch by the way." Probably not the nicest thing he could say, but he also could tell her all about how many times he hit Lennox with a bat before giving up on the weapon and just hit him with his fists that were still bruised up and healing from it.
"Why, did he show back up at your work or something?"
