Evan packed up her things from her weekend on Baton Rogue, a weekend with her brothers was exactly what she needed to put the whole mess at In the NOLA out of her head. She sent them a text that she was going to meet them both back in New Orleans and thanks for being there for her and piled back into her car. She knew that she had to make it up to Mallory, so she left a voicemail for her best friend that she was willing to do the profile on Phalanx House that she had turned away previously. No one wanted to do the piece on how good Phalanx House was for the community, when there was something bigger or more fun to chase. She also promised a big cup of coffee as soon as she got back. Evan spoke with Astor Perona for most of the drive back to New Orleans, hearing about the general history of Phalanx House and how most of their work is in finding youth who need help in other states or even providences of Canada and parts of Mexico. She told him that she would be there once she stopped at home and left him with her number.
A quick shower and a repack of some belongings, she tossed them back into her car and drove over to the house. Ash promised her that she would be able to tag along with their recruiter and that he would be the best source for information on the first moments of a newcomer to Phalanx.
Evan might be losing her mind a little bit, but she was pretty sure she heard a chuckle in his voice when he said that their recruiter was the best that they had.
Whatever that meant.
Evan parked in front of the house, stretching back until she heard a pop in her shoulders and climbed out of the car. It had been a good weekend, but she knew that she was going to need a vacation from her own brothers. She walked up to the house, knocked on the front door and waited for someone to open up. Hopefully, Astor told the recruiter that she was going to be tagging along, she just wasn't sure how far they would have to go to find this kid. She fidgeted with her dark tights and long sweater, enjoying how the cool winter air felt. It had been a good weekend, but she felt a lot more relaxed than when she left her office on Thursday. Escorted out or not, she was going to tell the story like she was just gently asked to leave. She was even sure that she was going to have to consult the security camera footage for a true picture of what really happened during all of that.
