Evangeline is dedicated to her future as a writer and understands that parts of it will be difficult and at times dangerous. She is proud, loyal, and dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. Van can come off as cold, callous, and at times rude, but she'll blame social anxiety and, at times, crippling self doubt. Charbonneau important people ♦ Best friend, Connor Morgan hometown ♦ New Orleans, Louisiana overall history ♦ Growing up, Evangeline's life was as close to typical and normal as could be. She was the youngest of three children, loving parents, good home, anything anyone could want. When she was born, Evangline had to spend time in the intensive care unit due to unusually high blood sugar. After some time in the NICU, Evan was able to go home with her mother. Growing up with her big brothers, Evan never knew heart ache, loneliness, or pain. Her brothers would take her on adventures, they would run around the dense woods of Louisiana. They were her best friends and she knew that she would always be able to depend on her brothers.
At ten, Evangeline started to know things that she should not be able to. She would hear whisperings while she was around her parents, and know things that she shouldn't be able to. She knew that her father starting gambling, she knew that her mother was having sad thoughts. She couldn't explain it, and only told her brothers about what she was able to hear. They believed her, but worried about what it meant. During this time, she made a friend at her school, Connor Morgan. They clicked quickly and became attached at the hip. Connor was also able to do incredible things, and became the person who Evan told everything to. They would pull pranks on people by having them think of something and make bets that Evan would be able to guess what they were thinking about. They would get kids to bet their lunch money, and would split the money.
At twelve, Evangeline had her biggest attack of her ability. She was out at a playground with Connor and she had a vivid vision of her mother on the ground surrounded by vomit and pills. She passed out at the playground with Connor and he had to carry her back to her home. When Evan woke up, the paramedics were taking her mother's lifeless body out of the house. Her father was stoic, her brothers helped her recovery, and Connor stayed by her side. The funeral was quick, Evan sticking by her brother's sides and Connor holding her hand the whole time. She never told anyone but Connor, but the vision she had was of her mother's suicide.
At thirteen, Evangeline's father remarried to her babysitter when she was a kid. Evan and her brothers hated the marriage instantly and almost skipped the wedding. Her brothers finally convinced her to go, and she glared at Kyrie for the rest of the night. After the wedding, she told her father about her ability and that she wanted some help with it. He admitted that his mother had a similar gift, and he had been waiting for one of his children to present with some ability. Henri hired her a private tutor and told her to keep the ability to herself.
Evan trained hard to gain a control over her gift, and dropped out of traditional schooling to focus on it. She started to attend online school with her tutoring sessions. The hardest part was of course, how much she missed seeing Connor. He ended up going to Phalanx House when he finally told his parents about his gifts. They disowned him, and Evan stayed by his side. She helped him set up his room at the house and shared some techniques that her tutor taught her how to do. It made the friendship even closer, if that was possible.
Around when she was fifteen, Evangeline pursued her passion for writing. She began writing short stories based on some of the people at Phalanx House. She would share the stories with her brothers, and with their support she began submitting the stories to local newspapers. The rejection letters stung, but she kept working towards her goal. By the time she turned sixteen, she came in second for a local libraries young author competition. She knew that it wasn't the start to her career she wanted, but it was where she knew that she had to be.
During her final year of high school, Evan dedicated herself to continuing her writing to gain a coveted internship at In the NOLA for after graduation. She dove into her writing and knew that she would have to practice as much as possible and become as skilled as she could. She made multiple submissions to In the NOLA, and other newspapers through New Orleans, and the rest of Louisiana. After many sleepless nights and going through more papers and red ink in editing than she ever thought possible, she finally got an interview with In the NOLA.
After her graduation from her online school, she earned her spot as an intern with In the NOLA, her first choice newspaper. She worked hard as an intern, often being the "coffee bitch" and editing work, but she worked hard. She would write, visit Connor at Phalanx, and write some more. When she was nineteen, she was given a full time job as a journalist and has been working there since.
