Mary is a recruiter for Phalanx House (where she lives) and interns at Monroe Hospital while taking classes at the local community college for social work. She loves singing, playing the guitar, cooking, and playing soccer. She is devoutly Catholic, but is very open to new ideas and leaves the judgement for God.
FRIENDS;; Mary seeks to have close, lifelong friendships over casual acquaintances. Her deeply compassionate and upbeat personalty means Mary is approachable and very easy to become friends with, and her empathetic healing ability can be a source of light in anyone's life. However, when Mary herself is down and upset, she needs every bit of love and support that she extends to others. Sometimes she needs to be reassured that your friendship is genuine, and not merely an addiction to her emotional healing. Any friend of Mary can also be a valuable teacher in the ways of a secular world she was protected from for most of her life.
FOES;; Mary seeks to avoid confrontation, but when that isn't possible she will either try to diffuse them or walk away. She rarely holds grudges and tries to put herself in the shoes of others. If you ever become an enemy of Mary, there is something terribly wrong with you.
LOVERS;; Mary seeks a long-term relationship with a devoted and loving partner (not necessarily religious), and in time, a family of her own. One-night-stands are out of the question for Mary, and she is very uncomfortable with the "hookup culture" that seems all-pervasive among her peers. That said she tends to keep those opinions to herself.
Winona is a registered ER nurse at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She has a passion for helping people and loves being in nature. Winona can be outgoing at times and generally very easy to get along with. She has a sarcastic, sometimes dark sense of humor, which often comes with the territory of being an ER nurse. She identifies strongly with her Sioux heritage, made stronger by her ability to connect with the astral and spiritual plane.
FRIENDS;; Winona has a variety of friends and acquaintances, most of whom are coworkers and fellow nurses. She prefers close-knit and mutually loyal friendships over casual ones, but also appreciates time for herself. She despises crowds and the New Orlean's nightlife, preferring to to engage in more serene outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing.
FOES;; Winona has plenty of these, again, mostly coworkers at the hospital. (Stuck up bitches who love drama). It is difficult to get on Winona's bad side, and she will make the effort to avoid conflict when she can. That said, she is headstrong, and can be uncompromising over certain things. In addition, Winona's father and to a lesser extent her mother, could be considered enemies. She has been unable to forgive them thus far for what they did to her brothers.
LOVERS;; Winona isn't interested in casual encounters or hookups, but seeks a long-term romantic partner. However, her demanding job and her attempt to reconnect with her brothers, she has found little time to pursue a relationship, as much as she wants one.
Fucking finally.Okay so Eppie and Mary lead at least somewhat similar, sheltered childhoods, though Mary Mag has her beat by a country mile. Either way, Eppie is also adjusting to life among a lot of people like her, and though she wasn't raised Catholic, she was raised Southern Baptist. She also adores going to churches and just sitting in them and viewing the old memories attached (she's a bit of a spiritual leach, I guess). But either way, if Mary Mag ever needs a steady stream of bad feelings, she can always accompany Eppie. Though I doubt she could ever re-convert Eppie, they are welcome to talk about spirituality and religion. Eppie would also be extremely interesting in Mary's work at Monroeville.
Thanks! It definitely seems like Eppie and Mary would share alot in common! While certainly Mary would benefit from a stream of bad feelings, Mary would certainly look up to Eppie as a mentor (with Eppie being older and having more experience at Phalanx), and would hope that she benefits her in some way. Mary wouldn't necessarily try to convert Eppie (she isn't an evangelist), especially if Eppie is resistant, but she would certainly invite Eppie to her church congregation, if nothing more than to take in the beauty of the mass and the music. She would love to talk about spirituality and religion with Eppie, and her work at Monroeville. As much as Eppie may need a shoulder, Mary does as well. In any case it certainly seems like they have quite a bit in common (dislike of crowds, interest in old buildings, etc)
Okay, so these two are bound to be best friends! Millie also works (volunteers) at Monroeville, so they would literally see each other all the time. They're both sweet girls, so I can see them having a real connection. Millie would definitely be there for her when she needed someone to lean on. She is super loyal when it comes to her friends. Mary might get a little upset/irritated that Millie sings all the time, but that comes with the territory.
So Viv is a doctor at Monroeville, so they would interact. They're both super into helping people, so that might work out. She also deals a little with religion because she learned about her abilities from witches (Wicca). So, she like thinks you can cast out demons (evil) with rosaries and stuff like that. She also wears a necklace of the cross because it has been blessed and she thinks it helps enhances her abilities.
I definitely see Millie and Mary as best friends, they have so much in common. Mary will definitely not be annoyed by the singing, since she loves to sing herself! The people the next room over maybe not so much xD. She would definitely invited Millie to her church choir if she were up for that sort of thing, or at the very least go around Christmas caroling. I could definitely see Millie trying to get Mary into acting, which she would be nervous about but totally open to.
That would be an interesting point they could have some connection with. Mary won't be pushy about her faith, but would certainly invite Gen to take another look.
Mary would definitely be interested in Viv's opinions on demons, as Mary believes they walk among us. Mary would definitely pick her brain regarding Viv's background with Wiccans, but would be wary about the slippery slope to the Dark Side. As for Monroeville, Mary would definitely see Viv as a mentor in the field.
They definitely do. Eppie would definitely have an affinity for Mary, so it totally wouldn't be one-sided by any means. I think Eppie still remains a spiritual person; her power, she feels, connects her to it in some way (which is probably why she goes to churches in her free time). She loves the discussion in theory and could indulge Mary a lot. She can appreciate Mary's candor from afar, and Eppie is always willing to be a shoulder to cry on! These two can definitely hit it off.

Help this lost teenager. She has been held at Monroe due to her unstable mental health, having alot to do with her lack of control of her Empath abilities. She distances herself from everyone when she can help it. Can you do something with this sad baby?
Cora here is my little ray of sunshine, as I'm sure you've figured out from the number of times it's been mentioned in the discord chat. She's very rarely a melancholy person, at least on the surface, and tends to have this really bubbly attitude at all times that people either hate or love. That being said, I do think that her and Mary Mag could get on pretty well! I feel like she would be able to see past the bubbly exterior that Cora puts on and would kind of see the fear and the turmoil that she deals with on a regular basis, because she's constantly afraid that she's going to lose control, and when she looses control she has a tendency to go into a depressive spiral that scares the shit out of her, but she can also be that love and support that Mary Mag needs sometimes? I feel like this is kind of all over the place but I feel like we could really work out a dynamic and interesting plot with these two if you're interested ♥
And on the flip side, there's this. Piper actively shuns religion and has a very cynical view of the world, and I have a feeling that Mary Mag's sense of "hunger" would be pretty quickly satiated if she ever got close enough to feel all the things that Piper carries with her: guilt, frustration, a sense of failure, traumatizing events... the list of things she bottles up on a regular basis stretches on, but you get my drift. I also feel like she would probably come to resent Mary Mag a little bit, because yeah those feelings go away, but it lets her breathe for a minute before she's forced to feel all of that all over again, and that somehow makes her feel worse.
I'm not super sure that Sophie and Mary Mag would ever come into contact, since she spends most of her time actively avoiding the staff at Monroeville, but it could be interesting to see whether or not Sophie would be moved to open up to her at all, or to tell her story and see what comes of it. This one is much shorter than the others but heeeere we are XD Let me know what you think!
I think these two would actually get along really well. They both have the same ability so theres that but Brody is a pretty happy goofball who loves making people happy even though he's not happy himself. Haven't figured out a good plot for a thread yet but tell me what you think about them?
Mary Magdalena Sutton & Euphemia Louise Morgan Agreed, and I look forward to interactions between the two, the Phalanx Christmas thread is certainly shaping up to be interesting. Perhaps the two should have a one-on-one thread sometime, maybe just to talk about Mary's progress at Phalanx and perhaps more, over tea/coffee and what not?
Freya Iris Thatcher & Mary Magdalena Sutton A a fellow empath, Mary would naturally feel an inclination towards helping Freya at whatever capacity she can. Mary is just an intern at Monroe Hospital, but would try to persuade the doctors and psychologists to having one-on-one sessions with Freya.
Cora Elaine Marshall & Mary Magdalena Sutton Mary could definitely see (feel?) past the bubbly front that Cora projects, and for that reason, could potentially become closer to Cora as a friend than most could - something Mary could benefit from as well, with Cora as one of her "true" friends.
Piper Addison Davies & Mary Magdalena Sutton So yeah Mary and Piper probably wouldn't get off well, for the reasons you mentioned, but they would probably be in contact often enough (at Phalanx House, and perhaps the Gorgon's head via Millie). It might be the case of Mary gradually eroding through Piper's emotional barrier. The temporary alleviation that Mary causes is actually something Mary dislikes, and wants to work on. She wants to help people feel genuinely and permanently better, not just temporarily.
@brody & Mary Magdalena Sutton I think Mary and Brody could definitely get along well; their powers are similar but also inverse opposites in a sense? Mary could definitely help Brody with his negative emotions, especially the ones he assumes via his abilities from others. She'd love to help Brody feel happy at Phalanx!
Mary Magdalena Sutton and Daisy Lee: So, I really would love it if Daisy and MM met up. Besides all her obvious traumas that would appeal to MM’s “hunger”, I think they’d end up as genuine friends. They’re both Catholic though Daisy’s bunch was very very veeeerrryyyyy old school about a lot of things and mainly made up of older people who might rival some of the nuns MM grew up with in terms of being terrifying, lol. I think Daisy may be even more sheltered, so it might be nice for MM to be the more knowledgeable one? Also MM is a sweetheart and I think Daisy would be drawn to her because of that, regardless of her ability, tbh. Let me know what you think!
okay i think these two would be fun to throw together! garrett has been a patient at monroeville for a little over ten years, so im sure he and mary have run into each other a few times by now. garrett’s got a decent enough track record with the staff for basically being a little weird but not causing issues and assuming she’s as friendly and caring as she seems, he’d make a point to be polite to her, and probably enjoy the opportunity to talk to a reasonably normal adult
i also think they could have some interesting conversations about theology/philosophy. garrett’s catholic, but majorly faith questioning. finding out when he was young that he had these prophetic visions is like .. the most god affirming thing ever, but after trying for years to use his power to help people and do good and failing over and over again he’s kind of at the point where he’s just like what the fuck man- and there’s just a lot of anger and guilt and mixed feelings about the whole thing.
realistically garrett’s going to be a jaded, a cynical dick to her rainbows and sunshine but i can see them getting close eventually and mary kind of helping him realize that he has a purpose he just hasn’t discovered yet.. and im sure she’ll be thriiiiiilled when she finds out later that he’s decided his purpose is destroying monroeville 😂.
Given their similarly orthodox Catholic upbringings, I definitely see Daisy and Mary getting along very well. To me, Daisy is the epitome of the victim soul, and Mary will be naturally drawn to that (her ability aside) and do everything she can to help her. I definitely see the two developing a strong friendship, and it will certainly be different for Mary to be the "least sheltered" in a friendship!
I think interactions between Garrett and Mary will be really interesting to write. Despite her "rainbow and sunshine," she has a thick skin because (as an empath) she understands how people feel when they say or act a certain way. She could definitely help him rediscover his faith (if fucking Daisy^^^^ can have faith than anyone can lol), but as an empath, knows what he is feeling and knows when to back off. Religion aside, I think Mary could help heal his jadedness overtime, and likewise, he could help Mary see Monroeville for what it is (she drank the koolaid when she was hired).
Yes, hi, these two need a thread like yesterday please. <3 After long shift breakfast, catching up in the hallway, a crisis. Anything. Clark is going to adore Win's spirit and her kindness, and I need them together somewhere, doing something.
