It was a painful day for Astor Oliver Perona. He looked over the smoldering hunk of metal that once was his motorcycle and tried not to let his temper blind him. He wanted to be okay with the youth he worked to support were practicing their abilities. He wanted to be happy that they were working hard and they were trying to make things easier for themselves in the long run. When he didn't like, what he really hated about all of this work was when the most prized possession of his life ended up enveloped by four elements in one after noon.
Jaxon Davies with a misaimed fireball, then the attempts at help from other students that resulted in his bike knocked over by wind, covered in gravel, and ultimately covered in snow. The bike was never going to ride again and Ash took the afternoon away to not worry about snapping at the kids, or even biting Jaxon "I'm going to interrupt a kiss with Eppie" Davies. He grabbed his younger sister and asked her to come out for an afternoon with him. Thankfully, New Orleans was a fair sized city and walking from Phalanx to the motorcycle dealership. He wanted to get something a little safer anyway, something that he would feel comfortable taking Eppie on a date on. He had an idea to take her away for a weekend and he wanted the new bike to do it with.
Still.
He looked over the new shiny handles, the cherry red paint, the matte black finish, and he felt nothing. No spark of need for the new bike like he had when he saw his old one. He was fresh from Monroeville and was working on building a world of good with Phalanx. He felt that instant connection and he wanted a level head of Astrid to help him tease out what was a real memory and what was nostalgia for his first major purchase.
"I don't know, Asha. It just- don't see one. What do you think?"

The day had started out like any other, but it was not going to be the way that it ended. When Astrid had heard the initial explosion, she had practically flung her homework from her lap as she scampered to the window - opposite of what would have actually been a reasonable response to seek cover. The sight that greeted her eyes was something that made her heart drop into her stomach, because she knew exactly what it was that had gone up in flames and it was something that was going to make things around Phalanx tense for a little while. Oh boy, this was not going to be a good thing.
Already dressed, she had scampered down the stairs and out onto the porch, hands clinging to one of the columns as she leaned over and inspected the motorcycle from a distance. The guilty parties were nowhere in the vicinity any longer, likely aware of just how dangerous it had the potential to be. Astor was terribly patient, but his bike was one of his prized possessions and there wasn’t a person at Phalanx that didn’t know that. It was part of why the kids all had strict instructions to stay away from it in the first place. Accidents happened though, especially when you considered the fact that they were all learning how to handle their abilities.
It had been her being in the line of sight of her eldest brother that had him dragging her along on this particular venture. A new bike was obviously the answer here, but… Well, Astrid knew how difficult it was to replace something that had so much value in the first place. So many times Ash had told her about how he had come to buy the bike in the first place, how it was his first big purchase and how much it meant to him. She could even remember the first time that he took she and Sirius for a ride, despite the younger Peronas arguing about who would get to ride first. Sirius had won out then, but since he was conveniently at work, Asha was hopeful this would be her turn.
That was if Ash ever picked something. Green eyes turned towards Ash, arms folded over her chest as she watched him look over bike after bike. ”You’re not letting yourself feel for a new one,” she said, having no hesitation when it came to telling her brother just what she thought. ”You’re holding onto the old bike. Let it go or you’re never going to find something. And then you’ll have to buy a station wagon or a minivan to tote us all around in instead. ”
