elliot bartholomew davies
the basics
full name ♦ Elliot Bartholomew Davies
nicknames ♦ Ell, El Idiot, Baby Davies
age ♦ sixteen
birthday ♦ November 26th, 2002
occupation ♦ Student
school ♦ Phalanx
species ♦ Human
ability/power ♦ Kinetic Absorption
how the ability works ♦ Elliot exist as a living battery fueled by punishment. Any significant contact with the five forms of kinetic energy that Elliot experiences are stored within his body and converted into physical might. As Elliot uses his enhanced strength he drains his reserves of energy. The more spectacular the display or heavier the weight the quicker this fuel is consumed. Fully charged, Ell was able to lift roughly 8 tons though he expended all of his energy doing so.
While carrying a charge Elliot's body will attempt to vent the energy by elevating his body heat. An indicator that he's currently, as he calls it, powering up is that he appears to be flush and exhibits an elevated body temperature. Opposed to feeling achy and jittery Ell feels the energy coursing through him granting him a euphoric feeling of power. If Ell holds onto the energy for too long it will eventually dissipate naturally, requiring him to build up more energy. While fully charged it takes ten hours for his powers to drain passively.
To supplement his ability Elliot's body is conditioned to receive punishment and handle the duress his enhanced strength places on him. His physical nomenclature is much denser than the average humans thus making him much hardier. Coupled with his ability to absorb the five kinetic forces this makes it exceedingly difficult to injure the boy. The amount of force required to injure Ell is quite staggering but is certainly achievable. There is a limit to the amount of kinetic energy he can convert into energy at any given time and if that is exceeded the excess force bleeds over.
Ell has a limit to the amount of energy that he can store. As he approaches this limit Ell's cognitive functions begin to shut down and he presents with symptoms that appear in line with drunkenness. Eventually, Ell will pass out and allow his body to disperse the energy naturally through heat loss usually for periods longer than ten hours. When he wakes up he is often ravenously hungry and disoriented from the ordeal. Even though Ell's body is denser than the average person he does not display any abnormal strength without any energy stored in his system. In fact, due to his musculature Ell is not buoyant enough to float in water and sinks like a rock. Any attempts to learn to swim have ended disastrously.
At his young age, Ell has difficulty controlling his strength and regularly leaves destruction in his wake. His lack of experience sees him overexerting himself, despite his failsafe, and can result in torn muscles. As he matures the upper limits of his storage capacity and strength will likely increase.
gender ♦ Male
sexuality ♦ Heterosexual
the appearance
face claim ♦ Declan Mckenna
height and weight ♦ 5'9" && 180 lbs
identifying features ♦ Ell bears relatively few scars thanks to the sacrifices of his brothers and sister.
overall appearance ♦ Elliot is a boy of painfully average height and, despite his weight, a waifish thing. With his mop of dark mahogany hair and "boring" brown eyes, he doesn't seem to stand out from the crowd. Elliot has worn hand me downs his entire life and feels out of place wearing new clothes. As such, all of his clothes are well worn and ill-fitting. He is particularly fond of hand me downs from his siblings and regularly borrows items from their closets or hampers without their permission. Whatever one Davies has worn it is very likely that it will one day end up in Elliot's closet. The baby of the family has a preference for t-shirts, shredded jeans, and his sister's scarves.
the personality
likes ♦ Nerd Culture | Comics | Anime | Tabletop Roleplay Games | History | Cold Pizza | Heath Bars
weaknesses ♦ Gullible | Clumsy | Poor Judge of Character
dreams ♦ Becoming the first Superhero | Living with his siblings | Finding his mother
fears ♦ Loud Noises | Foster Homes | Hurting people | Being separated from his siblings
overall personality ♦ Elliot is a boisterous and bubbly boy who craves social interaction. He thrives on the energy of other people and considers himself a bit of a social butterfly. While more than a little awkward and bumbling, his warm disposition lets him worm his way past all but the most guarded of individuals. Elliot is not picky about who he gets to speak with and will flounder his way through his amassed knowledge in order to find something to talk about. Ell's need to interact and have those close to him cause him to seem obnoxious and clingy.
What Ell lacks in social grace and street smarts he makes up for in book smarts. The baby of the Davies seems to lack the artistic spark that his siblings have. Instead, he's shown the ability to consume information and store it away as easily as his power stores energy. Ell loves to learn and explore and wants to do nothing more than expand his horizons beyond the window and locked doors he was kept behind for much of his life. This hunger for knowledge sees him wandering off on his own much to his siblings' dismay. Leaving Ell unsupervised for any length of time is a questionable choice.
Ell escaped from the problems of the world by immersing himself into the pages of comic books. It was a love passed to him by his oldest brother and something that he finds brings him closer even when they two were separated for almost half of Ell's life. In Jaxon's absence Ell dove head first into the nerd culture and has grown to adore all of its trappings and almost all of its fandoms. He possesses a near encyclopedic knowledge of nerd lore that causes most to look at him in disgust though he often mistakes this for admiration. He places great stock in heroism, honesty, and nobility.
Ell looks to his siblings for guidance in all things and sees them as his world. They have been the only constant in his life and his protectors since he was born. Being shielded by them and later discovering his powers he has sworn to himself that it was now his turn to protect them. He despises his past weakness fervently. Any circumstance in which he feels that either Jaxon, Piper, or Ezra are in danger see Ell spiral into a blind rage. He throws himself at the target of his hate with little consideration for his own life or the morals he holds so dear.
overall history ♦ [Trigger Warning: Child Neglect, Abuse]
Elliot Bartholomew Davies was the youngest of four and born into a tumultuous household. His first memories were of the filthy tub he was forced to hide in and his sister's shaking embrace. He remembered crying and yelling and violence. Ell can't even recall what his mother looked like, just the sounds of her crying. He was only four when CPS scooped up the Davies and placed them in foster care. That fateful day began what Ell assumed to be the rest of his life.
All he knew was the system.
They were placed in a home with a dozen kids and had to fend for themselves. Ell's awkward and bumbling nature made him an easy target for the older children. He was routinely made fun off, pushed around, and beaten all in the name of fun. Every time Jaxon came to his rescue like Superman swooping in to save Metropolis. Ell clung to his siblings desperately often in a physical sense, his tiny hands clutching at their clothes, desperately clawing for them whenever they tried to pry them away. In the storm that was their home, they were his safe harbor.
Jaxon distracted his youngest brother with heroic tales of heroes and villains. Piper provided the warmth that their mother should have given them. Ezra, the closest in age, proved to be Ell's favorite playmate. They were a team, a single unit that could take on the world as long as they were together. The world must have known that because it tore the four apart piece by heartbreaking piece.
Jaxon was the first to go. When he was taken away the world was a colder, darker place for the Davies. Their chief defender had been robbed from them. At eight years old it was hard to understand that your hero had abandoned you. Ell began to fabricate stories. Jaxon was off fighting bad guys, he was saving the world, he was coming back to save them. Before long no one could tell if he was using the stories to try and scare away the other kids or if he truly believed them. Piper and Ezra tried to fulfill the role of the protector just as Jaxon had but even as a pair they were not as successful as their eldest brother.
Ell tried his best to be the savior where he could but his efforts usually amounted to nothing. When he wasn't failing at being the hero he did his best to keep his head down and out of sight. He threw himself into his schoolwork, finding the hallow halls of education much safer and endearing.
Ell was fourteen when his powers began to manifest. They were odd occurrences at first and sporadic at best. Some days the hits from his foster parents didn't phase him. Once they'd tried to stick his hand over the oven as punishment for sneaking food and they'd waited ten minutes for him to burn, nothing happened. No one could explain it not even the superhero encyclopedia Ell. They would not fully bloom for another two years. The day it happened was a week after Ezra ran away. Ell waited for his brother to come back. He spent his days staring out the window and his nights sleeping in the tub praying for something for anyone.
On a particularly bad night, his foster father got more shitfaced than usual. Ell had the misfortune of being his target that night. Blow after blow landed on the boy as he huddled in the tub. He felt them shower down on him like rain but there was no pain. When his caretaker was finally out of breath he looked down on Ell and spat cursed him and his siblings. Ell's mind went blank and he shot out of the tub and pushed the man with all of his might. The man flew backward as if he'd been hit by a wrecking ball and smashed through the wall of the house. Ell was astounded by what had transpired. Afraid of what might happen he followed Ezra's example and ran, fleeing out the hole he'd created.
He was on the streets for ten days, experimenting with his powers, scavenging for food. In that period he began to understand some of the limitations of his power and what it actually was. When he finally put it all together he broke down into a sobbing heap.
They starved so he could have one more mouthful of food. They took beatings so that he might walk unmarred. They gave up their childhoods so that he might have something close to one. When they were gone he found out he was the best suited to do the protecting.
Where had this power been while Jaxon was brutalized? Where had it been when men crept into Piper's room? Where had it been when he and Ezra were bullied and attacked?
Ell's time on the street came to a close when a strange black car pulled up beside him. Inside was a bearded man who squinted at the child. When the man asked if his name was Elliot the boy's heart soared. The scary Irishman told Ell that he knew where his brothers and sister were and that he could take him to them. Without any consideration for his safety Ell jumped in and was taken to Phalanx Home and back to the people who meant the most to him.
