gaspard justin charbonneau
the basics
full name ♦ Gaspard Justin Charbonneau nicknames ♦ Gaspard age ♦ twenty six birthday ♦ February 11th, 1992 occupation ♦ Maintains a website for a small (currently unnamed) business he started that helps reunite pet owners with lost pets in NOLA, also helps maintain an animal shelter. school ♦ Phalanx species ♦ human ability/power ♦ telekinesis how the ability works ♦
So, he can move things without touching them. This brings him much irritation as it basically defies all laws of physics. He doesn't understand it, and he doesn't often use it intentionally. It hits him when he's upset or frightened or excited. The more emotion, the stronger he is, though often the less control he has over it. After years of practice, he can move a specific target with ease as long as it is in the same room as him and it is light enough for him to lift with his hands. For example, he can pull a pencil into his hand from across the room. He cannot lift a car from the ground. At this time, he has little desire to put in the practice it would require to allow him to do more with his telekinesis.
His ability, while active and sometimes even while dormant, brings him severe headaches and sometimes vertigo.
gender ♦ cis male sexuality ♦ bisexual
the appearance
face claim ♦ Andre Hamann height and weight ♦ 6'0", 170 lbs identifying features ♦ tattoos all over his arms overall appearance ♦
Gaspard looks like an athlete. He is muscular, fit, and healthy. He keeps his facial hair clean and isn't a big fan of letting it grow long because it grosses him out when he's eating. His mannerisms often reveal a sense of discomfort, his thumbs often fidgeting and his eyes averting eye contact. Despite this, he usually has a smile on his face.
the personality
likes ♦ + animals + hiking + traveling + Jacques (his cat) + tattoos + women with tattoos + men with tattoos + iced coffee mixed with monster + trying new things + spending time with his siblings + playing video games + eating breakfast + eggs + making smoothies + hanging upside down + Game of Thrones + Lord of the Rings + soda from different countries + vintage soda + making music
dislikes ♦ - lying - candles or air fresheners with strong scents - perfumes - hand sanitizer - processed foods - greasy food - ripped jeans - irresponsibility - confrontation
strengths ♦ + coding, website development + remembering random facts + strong muscle memory + friendly + following instructions
weaknesses ♦ - terrible memory (when he's not remembering random facts) - short attention span - socially awkward, getting social cues - has anxiety that sometimes becomes irrational - functioning well in crowds
dreams ♦ to work with National Geographic fears ♦ to hurt someone, his siblings moving away or their relationship being damaged
overall personality ♦ Gaspard is sweet, friendly, and awkward as fuck. He's very blunt and straightforward and often doesn't quite understand sarcasm. Picking up on anything that isn't explicitly stated is difficult for him. He doesn't mind this, though-- in his opinion, everyone should be more honest. More open. It prevents misunderstandings.
He will remember things like your birthday, your favorite food, or what you like to do in your spare time. On the contrary, he will forget what he had for dinner last night, what time his doctor's appointment is, or why he has walked into a room. This frustrates him sometimes, but he's generally fairly patient, both with himself and others.
If you tell him that you're upset, and you're friends, be prepared for him to stop by your house with a plethora of your favorite snacks. He'll stop whatever he's doing to go help a friend out in any way that they need it.
He's not very adventurous in the sense that he doesn't like trying new things that could be risky. Going bungee jumping, for example, is not something that he would be willing to do. He does, however, enjoy visiting new places in order to learn about the environment and ecosystem. He does a lot of research before going on trips in order to make sure that he is as safe as possible. He's also very active, enjoying hiking, biking, and playing soccer. He used to love swimming, but this has changed since his accident. Now, he has anxiety when it comes to going in the water, particularly the ocean because of the strong currents and waves. Despite this, he'll visit a beach and spend hours searching through tide pools for organisms he can study.

trigger warning: parental death, suicide
The heart of a shrimp is located in its head. You think humans would be more successful if they had their hearts near their heads. You always did growing up-- your head dictated all of your decisions. You think everything through... a bit too much. Sometimes it keeps you out of trouble... like when the high statistical probability of getting caught prevents you from hotwiring someone's car just because it'd be fun. Sometimes, it just ruins your fun. Like when you won't go into the lake at a beach because you know that the water likely contains a plethora of potentially deadly bacteria.
A snail can sleep for three years. You probably could too if you tried hard enough. You could sleep through anything. You've installed a special mattress to your bed that shakes in order to wake you up because you were late to work four times in one month and your boss already judges you hardcore because of your anal retentive ethic.
The fingerprints of a koala are so indistinguishable from humans that they have on occasion been confused at a crime scene. You've gotten into trouble more times than you can count, but not for anything malicious. You were that kid in school who could never sit still. You never remembered to bring your homework to school despite always being sure to put in the effort to do the work. Your teachers saw you as a huge headache but you were always so polite that they couldn't hate you as much as they wanted to. Something about you draws people in. You're kind and unconditionally loyal.
Giraffes have no vocal chords. Neither did you, it seemed, when your mother died. You were thirteen. You had never been good at expressing emotion but you had been close to her, as you always were with Evan and Will. Grief hit you hard and you didn't know how to handle it. You spent weeks in your room, reading books about death and mourning. They failed to give you the answers you were looking for. It was a month before you cried, and at that time everything burst from you like an explosion. Your window shattered. Your books fell from your shelf, hitting the opposite wall across the room. Anxiety surrounded you like a blanket. Phalanx helped you for a few years, but you never liked staying in one place for long.
Slugs have four noses. You could have used four noses on the day of your accident. You were eighteen and you needed to fight your anxiety. You'd been in California for the summer, having landed an incredible internship opportunity working with the Los Angeles National Veterans Park. You'd surfed a ton in the past but a storm and an uncharacteristic burst of courage brought you to less than favorable conditions. You were knocked into the water, powerful waves bringing your body to a forceful collision with a rocky shore. Your nose was broken but more concern surrounded your concussion. You've had trouble with memory ever since.
Nearly three percent of the ice in Antarctic glaciers is penguin urine. You returned home quickly, refusing to travel again for quite some time. You stayed in Phalanx again for another couple of years while you saved the money to move out. Your days consist of caring for stray animals and playing video games with your siblings. Some days, you have the urge to run a mile while others, you don't want to go outside. You are unpredictable and quirky and complex.
