Lyric ran her fingers through her bright red hair and scanned the crowd for a similar head of firey locks. She was supposed to be meeting her cousin for coffee, and she was already crawling out of her skin. She had promised Wren that she wouldn’t be in the closet forever, and this was the next step in fulfilling it. She already told Nova, her sister meant the world to her and she knew that there would be some hurt feelings if she told Mal before she told Nova. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to keep Wren if she tried to hide her. Wren had already made it clear that she could get any woman she wanted. She could crook her finger and get any beautiful girl at the school, and Lyric wasn’t going to lose her. She refused to share and she was fiercely protective over everything that she wanted. She wanted to keep Wren.
She took in a deep breath and raked her fingers through her hair again, leaning back in her chair at the coffee shop. The sounds of the steaming milk, the coffee beans grinding, and the smells of the fresh baked pastries made her relax, if only slightly. She knew that Mallory would still care for her, they had always been close. They told each other everything and she just wanted to be honest with one family member before she gained the courage to tell her parents.
Everytime the bell above the door twinkled, she checked for a redhead. The sooner she did this, the sooner she could tell the rest of the world, and the sooner she could be the girlfriend that Wren deserved. The one that she so desperately wanted to be for her blonde siren. Lyric worried her lower lip, being careful not to smudge her cherry red lipstick. If there was anything her family cherished more, it was looking pristine always. Even for something as informal as two cousins getting coffee, she wanted to make sure she looked nice. It was something in their DNA, they always tried to look their best and it was ground into them for as long as Lyric could remember.

For once, Mallory actually wasn’t running late. She had gotten up plenty early this morning, had gotten herself in order with some casual—but nice—clothing that would be appropriate for meeting with family, had gotten her makeup on, all without having to rush. She had, however, skipped the coffee, since she was going to be meeting her darling little cousin at her favorite cafe in the Quarter, and the last thing that she wanted to do was to practically vibrate out of her skin later on in the day. After all, there were things that she needed to do, though she was in no rush whatsoever to hurry her cousin from whatever had prompted her to call this particular meeting. When they were children, Mal had found great company in Lyric, and a closeness had been born between the two of them that continued to this day, despite Mal’s graduation from Primrose and beginning of a life quite separate from the institution. Make no mistake, she went to the alumni fundraisers, and she donated when she found the opportunity to, but she had found her future, and had no intent on looking back on the time that she had spent in Primrose with anything other than a fond regard. There were those who said that high school was the best time of their lives, that had not been Mal’s experience, she had been a much worse person then, but she supposed to each their own.
Her plans for the day were simple. Meet Lyric for coffee and to catch up, pop over to the office of In the NOLA to look over some things, before heading to the gym and getting in a long overdue work out. Her life had gotten far too complicated lately, and honestly? She needed some time in that gym to kick the shit out of a weighted bag, because it had been far too long since she had made her way into the gym, and she could feel her muscles starting to lose some of what she had spent so much time honing. A lot had happened since the last time that she had made it to the gym; the holidays had been hectic had best and awkward more than anything else, but between work and familial obligations, she hadn’t been able to make it in.
Mallory made her way into the Quarter Cafe, scanning the people sitting at various tables until her eyes landed on a brilliant head of copper hair that she recognized. A bright smile split her face as she made her way over to Lyric, taking off her jacket as she made her way over. “Lyric!” Her voice was pitched high with excitement, and she wrapped her arms around the slightly shorter girl’s shoulders, wrapping her in a warm, familial embrace. She had always been one to value her family, and Lyric was no exception. It had been far too long since the two of them had some time to actually catch up, and it was really good to see her again. “God, it’s been ages since I saw you last, how have you been? How are classes going? Have you ordered anything yet? It’s on me.” She took her seat across from the younger redhead, draping her jacket carefully over the back of her chair.
Lyric Azalea Pennbrook| This is super short and not that great, but I hope it's enough to get this started ♥
She didn't know why she was so nervous. She had no reason to. It was Mallory. Her cousin meant the world to her and her cousin was always there for her and Nova. The Pennbrook parents were less than warm and fuzzy towards their children, and the Butlers always seemed to have that. Summers when Nova and Lyric would spend with their cousins were always the best because they got a taste of what it was like to have parents who genuinely cared about their children. It was like they had a place where they could be happy and well taken care of, and they didn't have to just depend on each other as much as they did in their New York City brownstone. Lyric knew that she would be able to turn to Mallory about anything, and she knew that this was going to be okay.
Hell, from what Lyric had seen between Mallory and her best friend Evangeline, she was fully prepared for another family member to come out of the closet to her.
She had been so concerned about what would happen when people found out that she was bisexual, she never even imagined that Nova or her friends might have the same desires. The bells twinkled and she was able to look when she was pulled into the warm embrace by the familiar redhead. "Mal." She breathed happily, excited to see her cousin and catch up with her. Lyric grinned and sat up a little bit, adjusting her posture from excitement of seeing her cousin, "No, I haven't ordered yet. I know you've been off taking over the written word. How's the paper?" She asked, wanting to talk about her cousin first before they dove into everything that was happening with her and her admission.
She knew that it was going to go well. Being with Wren was too amazing and too pure not to be meant to be. They were too good together for them not to be meant to be together. There was too much that she loved about Wren and she just wanted to be open and happy and with her. She just wanted to tell her family. To let them know that this is who she was and there was no changing it. Nova's "why were you keeping this a secret" rang in her ears, reminding her that she had a lovely family and even better support system around her. No matter how cold and distant she tried to be at Primrose, she still craved their approval on every part of her life and Wren had the potential to be a big part of that life.
