full name ♦ rhian alexandrie bellamy nicknames ♦ rhi (pronounced like rye) age ♦ twenty nine birthday ♦ august 4th, 1989 occupation ♦ psychology teacher at primrose school ♦ primrose alum species ♦ human ability/power ♦ persuasion. how the ability works ♦ rhian's ability originates within her innate understanding of other people's psychology - of their desires, intentions, secrets, fears, and flaws - and ability to manipulate those things in her subject through suggestion. she is only able to manipulate someone that is in her direct vicinity, as it requires the subject being able to hear her speak, and it does not work over a distance like by telephone or on someone who is deaf or work as well on someone who is hard of hearing. she can influence the will of others based on what she understands of them, and the more she talks to them and the better she knows them reveals more to her. she is able to influence her subject this through talking to them in a calm, soothing voice and describing what it is she wants them to do.
however, her ability is limited to things that already fall within the realm of what someone does or may want. she can't convince someone to kiss a peer if they have no interest in that person in that type of situation, or force her will on someone who doesn't have prior understanding of the concept she's trying to impose. there has to be some type of existing understanding, knowledge, and/or idea about it in the person she's trying to manipulate. she cannot implant memories, experiences, or emotions that the other person has never actually experienced or considered, but she can manipulate an existing desire to experience something specific. more simple commands - convincing someone to pick up a pen - versus complex commands - following a step by step recipe listed out by her - is essentially much less cumbersome and going to be more successfully executed with much less negative impact on rhian.
in general, the effect her ability has on her depends on the number of people she is influencing and for how long. if she's speaking to one person and using only subtle suggestions such as stepping to the side when someone else is passing or picking up an item, she can have an ongoing conversation with that person for a few hours with very little impact on her overall, no more than actually doing those things herself would impose on her. however, if she is influencing more than one person, and/or she is issuing more manipulative and complex commands, it will wear on her much more at a faster rate - usually within 15-20 minutes depending on the size of the crowd. it causes migraines and physical symptoms similar hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) such as tremors, nausea, clamminess, dizziness, and potentially passing out.
in combination with her brother @richard 's ability, they are quite a pair. although both of their abilities operate off of existing memories/feelings of the subject, the use of colorful enough language from rhian can further convince someone he is manipulating with an illusion that what they are experiencing is real - or more real than it might have seemed only with rich's influence. this takes a lot of communication and planning between the twins, however, so this is not something that can be done on a whim or without some level of coordination. gender ♦ cis-female, she/her sexuality ♦ heterosexual
the appearance
face claim ♦ julianne hough height and weight ♦ 5'4"&135lbs. identifying features ♦ a small ribcage tattoo on her left side that says "just breathe" in french overall appearance ♦ rhian is almost everything you would expect of a blonde haired, blue-eyed woman who makes sure her clothes are designer and her appearance is impeccable every time she may be seen by another soul. she is the epitome of resting bitch face, queen of the side eye, duchess of "you've got to be kidding me" eye rolls. her long hair, reaching nearly to her waist, usually lays down and curled, but if not, it's pulled up in a simple but complimentary updo that she seems to do effortlessly (in reality it's from years of practice). her blue eyes are sharp and focused, observant and aware. appearance is important to her, so it's a very rare case you would ever find her anything close to undone unless you decide to pay a surprise visit to her at home. designer clothes, or at the very least outfits that look straight out of a fashion magazine, are generally what she wears. rhian maintains good posture, adding a bit of height to her otherwise unimposing 5'4" along with the high heels she wears.
the personality
likes ♦ the beach, paris, psychology, her brother, summer weather, sailing, chocolate, puzzles, traveling, languages, science, coffee, sex dislikes ♦ commitment, bugs, insomnia, sports, soda, sweet tea, hair getting in her eyes, driving for long distances, spray tans, strengths ♦ confident, sensual, mature, adventurous, efficient, flirtatious, resourceful weaknesses ♦ bitchy, manipulative, jealous, vain, vindictive, perfectionist, distant, selfish dreams ♦ further developing her own ability fears ♦ being poor, losing her status overall personality ♦ if you wanted to boil rhian down to just one word, that word would likely be bitch. now, she may not have outwardly hostile or bitchy behavior toward you if she deems there a reason to be kind - but she's just as quick to stab you in the back as she is to sweet talk you. words have two sides to them when it comes to this woman, one to get your attention and think she's actually being kind when in fact it's a backhanded compliment meant to undermine you. the truth about her is that she really only has her own best interest in mind, and rhi will do anything in her power to achieve it. it's hard to believe, honestly, that she's a teacher, but that boils down to she knows what she's talking about and she knows who to use a little persuasion on in order to make sure she keeps her job. this is in regard to the general population - she's really not a nice person. she's more likely to be a bit kinder to her students than she is fellow faculty or in general to people she doesn't know - she's not exactly known as the warmest teacher at primrose academy, but she takes her students seriously and treats them as adults rather than children in order to foster good grades and behavior in her classes.
however, when you get her around people she trusts, which are very few and far between, it's a little bit of a different story. that cold exterior as icy as her blue eyes comes down just a little bit, and the small amount of warmth in her shows occasionally. she's not quite as arrogant, less likely to be downright mean, and while she's still as blunt as she is pretty, it doesn't always come across as quite so rude. most of this behavior serves as self-protection; her twin brother is the only family member she was ever close to, and as it is, warmth and friendliness aren't traits bred into her nature as a result. if you're looking for a shoulder to cry on, you might want to keep looking.
the history
father ♦ richard bellamy iv, 57, diplomat from the us to france mother ♦ adeline bellamy nee devereaux, 52, french heiress to banking fortune siblings ♦ @richard , 29, twin brother important people ♦ anyone else important, from family to close friends hometown ♦ paris, france overall history ♦ passion is a trait bred into your blood. your mother was passionate about anything and everything (before altogether moving that passion along to something else) and your father was passionate about his work. you turned out to have passion burning in your veins, waiting to be directed into a path that would catch your attention for the greater good. or, at least, for your own greater good.
you had to learn, though, that passion did not equate or precipitate kindness. it made you single-minded at times, under so much pressure from yourself that you struggled to see the bigger picture from everyone else's perspective. it made you almost cold and uncaring, manipulative in order to make sure things went your way. you just wanted, sometimes without ever knowing what exactly it was that you were wanting for. something to ground you, perhaps.
it took time. it is, perhaps, at partial fault of your home life. not that your parents were ever bad people, but because they weren't involved. you spent your pre-college years at primrose academy that your father thought would do you some good at the hands of people who could educate you on your ability. they could teach you about etiquette and the classics, how to behave like a lady and about science, and particularly about your ability, but they don't teach you about the comfort of family if your heart is broken or how to rely on someone other than yourself for strength. it doesn't make you bitter, though - it just makes you that much more determined to be self-contained and self-reliant.
by the time you graduated from the academy, you found a channel for your passion. as soon as high school was over, you'd already decided on a gap year for travel to foster your interest. your mother encouraged you to pursue it, while your father blatantly disapproved, but you honestly couldn't have cared less by that point. you were still going to do it either way.
over the course of eleven months, you backpacked and traveled, starting in france and made your way across the expanse of europe. you had seen all of the prettier parts in summer trips with your family (in the few months you were actually with them), but now you got to experience the country-side, the people, the local cuisine from hole-in-the-wall restaurants and get drunk off your ass in random bars with locals instead of the world of diplomats and perfect appearances. people didn't know you as 'rhian bellamy, daughter of a trading mogul' - they knew you as 'hey rhi, you wanna grab a beer this evening?' and you really liked it that way.
the following fall brought a different change. a move back to america, the beginning of college. it wasn't as if you were unused to being away from home, at least. you learned to adjust, but there was a certain amount of culture shock, especially after spending nearly a full year away from the kind of life that many of your classmates also lived - in the public eye in some form. you're mostly okay to fall back in this element, though, to be a chameleon and blend in with the kind of society in which you were raised. you pick up where you left off and dive back into the books.
you finished your undergraduate dual degree in psychology and teaching at louisiana state university, and then you continued on into graduate school from there. your father has humored you, essentially, and continued to pay for your schooling as long as you were dedicated to it. when you graduated and decided to return to your alma mater to teach, no one could really say they were surprised.
