Suddenly, Phalanx became a lot nicer. Ezra hadn't been there long when Astor came to him, explaining that his brother was living there. There was no one Ezra wanted to see more than Jaxon, but it almost seemed too good to be true. With Ash's help, they were able to arrange a meeting. As instructed, Ezra waited in his new room, at the moment alone and sitting on his bed. As soon as he heard someone approaching, he stood up to face the door. Excitement and anxiety both overwhelmed him, raising his heartrate.
"Jaxon," he greeted quickly, shocked to see his brother standing before him. He gaped for a moment before stepping forward and wrapping his arms around him tightly. He was afraid to let go and by the time he did, he was crying. "I ran away. I got scared," he admitted, overcome with emotion. "I thought you were in jail. I've missed you." Jaxon had been the parent he'd never had. He'd been their protector for so long and Ezra owed him so much that he didn't think he could ever pay him back.
"You live here too?" he asked, eager to hear more about what Jaxon had been up to. "Are you okay? What happened when you were taken away?" It had all happened so quickly and having been in school, he had wondered about the details he'd missed. He felt like he would need a year to ask all the questions that he wanted to.
Ash told Jaxon that there was a surprise in the house and for Jaxon to head on in to see it. Tentatively he walked inside and spotted a mass of blond hair that he would never be able to forget. Even after all of the years, all of the trials and chaos, he would know his brother anywhere. The tears gathered in his eyes and couldn't believe it. The Christmas ornaments practically made the room look like a dream and he had both of his brothers back. he was so close to having his family back, and it didn't feel real. He was afraid to rush to his brother and destroy the hallucination. He was even more afraid that Ezra would want nothing to do with him after his abandonment.
"Ezra." Fears be damn, Jaxon rushed into the living room area and wrapped his arms around his brother. The tears slowly freely this time. He had his brothers back in his life. They were back, they were safe, and they were alive. Ezra holding him back, the two of them crying tears, Jaxon's of pure joy that he had another opportunity to wrap his arms around Ezra and Eliot. They just had to find Piper. "It's okay, you're here now, you're safe." He choked out, "I've missed you too, Ezra. I've missed you so much."
Jaxon let go of his brother, wiping his eyes from the rebellious tears that were staining his face. "I do, I've only been here for a little bit, but it's good. They're good here." Jaxon looked over his brother, still surprised how much he and Eliot aged in such a short amount of time. "I um- I went to court. I got charged with time in juvie. I turned twenty one and they booted me out. I went searching for you guys and heard that you all ended up down here. I hitchhiked and got here as quick as I could." He looked at Ezra again, he missed his brothers so much.
"Eliot is here too, we just- we don't know where Pipes is."

"I was scared I'd never see you again." He had never been so emotional in his life-- he didn't know how to handle it. Years of numbness had not prepared him for this reunion.
"I can't believe you're here," he said in disbelief. He'd been so scared, so tempted to run away again. He didn't know what Phalanx was like or who the people were who ran it. He hadn't known that he'd be safe. Now that Jaxon was telling him how great of a place it was, Ezra couldn't believe that he'd had the good fortune of finding it. It seemed like his luck was turning around.
"Did you really set the fires?" he asked, not having had the chance to talk to Jaxon after it happened. "They said you did, but I know you were doing it to protect us." He wanted him to know that, that he and his siblings had known that Jaxon practically gave himself up for them. "I can't ever repay you for that." For that, or the years of protecting Jaxon had done. The years of bullets Jaxon had taken for them.
"Eliot," he said, furrowing his eyebrows and grinning as he took in that information. "So he's okay too," he acknowledged, almost laughing out of excitement. "We can find Piper." He'd do whatever it took to find her.
And then it set in, the reason why Ezra had been taken to Phalanx, as opposed to another home. "Wait-- does that mean you have.." He didn't know how to ask. It still scared him. Still, he took in a deep breath and looked down at his hands. "I need to tell you something." He tried to get a spark out of his hands but he didn't yet have enough control over it.
Hugging his brother close to himself, knowing that the younger man was safe and sound in his arms, it was as close to perfect as he could have imagined. Ezra was back and they were in a safe place that they could call home.
"I'm here, Ez. I'm not leaving." He promised, knowing that it would be the easiest promise that he made to his siblings. He left them for six years, and he never wanted to put any of them through that ever again. He would do anything to show them that they were going to be safe in Phalanx, and start their lives again as a family. "And we can stay here, be safe. Astor is a nice guy. No hitting or anything."
He nodded grimly when Ezra asked if he really set the fires. "I did, they wouldn't listen to me when I tried to talk to the social workers about what was happening. They didn't listen, so I did it myself." He knew that it was dangerous, but he would have done anything to keep them safe from harm. "I would do anything for you guys, you know that Ezra."
"Eliot said he's seen her out on the streets, that she's okay, but we'll get her here no matter what." He had talked to Ash about the possibilities that the rest of his siblings might not have had abilities, but knew about the world. Ash promised that he would make sure they they would be able to stay together.
He held his hand open as a small fire formed in the palm of his hand, and looked at his brother. "It was how I started all of this fires." They had never found any lighters or matches on him, so he got away with it for a while. Jaxon closed his hand to extinguish the flame and looked at his brother, "You can tell me anything."

Ezra couldn't stop his tears when Jaxon assured him that with Astor, there'd be no hitting. They were done getting hurt-- no one would hurt them anymore.
"I know," he said, his voice cracking. He knew that Jax would do anything for them and he trusted his brother with his life. He just wished that they hadn't had so much time separated. "Thanks for doing it." He knew that it had been done for them and despite the hardship it caused, it had gotten them away from a toxic situation.
"We have to help her," he said with concern, horrified by the idea of Piper living on the street. "Can we find her? Can we do anything?" he rushed out, afraid to lose her before they could find her. Who knew how much longer she'd be in the area... or if she'd get sick?
He watched with wide eyes as his brother, the person he'd grown up with, conjuring fire from his hand. "I didn't know," he said, pretty surprised that he'd never figured it out. "It doesn't hurt?" It looked painful... I mean... How could it have not been hot? "You can control that?" he asked with interest, staring at the flame.
"You can tell me anything."
He furrowed his brows, curling his lips as he tried to get a spark to his hands. After about a minute of concentration, a quick flash of electricity shot out of his hands and back into them. He jumped, startled by the jolt's power. "It just... happened one day. I... knocked someone back with it. I didn't mean to... she was hurting me and it just..." He shook his head. It was still traumatizing. "I didn't mean to hurt her."
Jaxon wiped his brothers tears, his own rolling down his cheeks. He had tried so hard to keep them safe from the bruises and the broken bones. He tried so damn hard to take the brunt of the attacks, and he knew that he couldn't stop all of it. He would try to get the attention on him, he would yell and scream and call names and start fights with the various shit boyfriends that their so called mother would parade in as the next one who was going to save the family. But his siblings still got more than he ever wanted them to, and he would never forgive himself for that.
"I should have done something else, I never should I have been so dumb to do something that got me arrested." The years he was in, the years that he knew Piper would have to watch over the boys and even more years where he knew that the boys would have to watch out for themselves.
"We'll find her. Eliot thinks he knows where she's been playing for money. We're going to find her." He promised Ezra, knowing that at least Piper was alive. He knew deep down that he would just know if she was hurt or if they lost her forever. He would just know in his soul if something happened to her, they had a connection forged in raising Ezra and Eliot and there was nothing quite like it.
Jaxon rotated his hand and shrugged a little, "It tingles, and control? Hell no. Sometimes I can barely get a flame, other times, I'm creating bon fires or explosions."
He watched the electricity in his brother's hands and then the story about hurting someone. Jaxon pulled him close again, hugging him close to his chest. "It's okay, Ezra. I know you would never mean to hurt someone." He looked down at his brother, his arms extended out to get a good look of Ezra as a teenager for the first time.
"You know this probably explains why you were always such a little shit to get into a bath when you were a kid."

Jaxon kept apologizing and yet Ezra didn't think he had any reason to. He hadn't been angry with Jaxon for getting arrested-- he'd been worried for him. "I'm really glad you're okay," he said seriously. The thought of Jaxon rotting in some jail cell had brought him more concern than anything.
"Do you think Piper can do something too?" he asked, not having thought about it being genetic until now, seeing the connection between himself and his brother. It had to have come from their mother-- there was no other explanation. "I hear people at Phalanx talking about how some people get locked up for being like us," he admitted, concerned considering Jaxon's ability was particularly destructive. That, and the fact that Ezra had shocked someone, made Ezra fear for his freedom.
"She came at me," he reiterated, shuddering at the memory of it. Under different circumstances, his ability would have brought him more curiosity and excitement. Now, he was afraid of it. "What if she tells someone?" Maybe she had gone to the police right away. Would anyone believe her? Maybe there were people looking for him now. Maybe he was too dangerous to be free to roam the streets of NOLA. "Can Phalanx help you?" he asked, wanting more than anything for Jaxon to be safe from incarceration. If Jaxon didn't have control over it, they were at risk of being separated again.
He grinned slightly at Jaxon's comment about Ezra being difficult to get in the bath, appreciating the necessary comedic relief. "Do you think it's been waiting all this time?" he asked, wondering if the abilities were dormant for a while before they began to appear. "Warmer water stings. Cold water isn't as bad, but I don't like it," he explained. "I just wish I could choose when to make a spark. I don't like not knowing when it's going to happen."
He knew that Piper was going to be the one to hold him accountable for the result of him going to jail. Piper had to raise the two young boys and keep them both safe and alive. She had to do everything she could when Ell was young and Ezra was angry. He wanted to make it up to all of them. "Yeah, I'm okay. Didn't join up any gangs or anything. No tattoos." He said with a smile, rolling up his sleeves to prove his point.
"I really hope so, but I talked to Astor and I talked to him about all of this. Even if she doesn't, he said she can stay." He couldn't believe he was looking at his baby brother, "Ell is here too, and he can do something too, I guess mom did something or just carried whatever superhero gene we all got." He felt a pit in his stomach when Ezra asked about people who were getting locked up for being like them. He placed a hand on each of Ezra's shoulders, "No one is going to take you, Ez. I won't let that happen. We're going to be all together soon and I'm going to make sure that no one comes in and takes any of you away."
Jaxon wanted to take the worry away from his brother. He wanted to show his brother that he was going to be okay, and that they all had to work on controlling the gifts they had. Assuming Piper had one. Even if she didn't, he just wanted to have their sister back. He wanted to go to sleep at night knowing that they were all safe. "If she tells someone, then we keep you safe no matter what. Hide you, dye your hair, I don't care. You're not getting shipped off to some hospital." He heard all about Monroeville from various people at Phalanx, and from Aisling. He didn't want that for his little brother.
"No one is going to come at you again."
Jaxon shrugged, "Maybe? Something deep inside of all of us? That was-" he looked at his brother, "It was how I set the houses on fire, but that was a lot more intentional." He didn't care for swimming either, he had been sure it was just because the puget sound wasn't the warmest water in the world, but he was also pretty sure being prone to fire was part of it.
"They have classes here we take, stuff to help us all control it."
