Piper Addison Davies
the basics
full name ♦ Piper Addison Davies nicknames ♦ Pipes, some people call her Pippa age ♦ Nineteen birthday ♦ August 4th, 1999 occupation ♦ Bartender at the Gorgon’s Head, street performer school ♦ Phalanx House species ♦ Shapeshifter - Falcon ability/power ♦ N/A how the ability works ♦ When Piper focuses, she can turn into a slightly larger than average Peregrine falcon. The transformation itself is rather painless, with the most notable ache being in her joints and only occurring if she’s been doing a lot of flying around. However, despite being mostly able to change at will, she cannot change when she is feeling particularly emotional. She’s not sure if it’s because she can’t focus or because there is an inherent disconnect between her emotions and her ability to transform. However, when she is asleep and dreaming of flying, she will sometimes shift her form. There have been a few occasions where she’s woken up in the middle of the night, partially shifted into bird form, and most of the time she opts to complete the change and go flying. There’s also a relationship to the amount of time spent in her shifted form and how hungry she is: the longer that Piper is a falcon, the hungrier she will be after changing back. Additionally, she’s a bit dazed after transforming back into a person, and is often vulnerable because she’s adjusting to the different senses that come with being a human instead of a bird. She also has a tendency to get a bit twitchy when she’s in small spaces for too long, and will feel the urge to shift if she’s stuck in one for too long. gender ♦ Female | She/her(s) sexuality ♦ Unsure
the appearance
face claim ♦ Zendaya Coleman height and weight ♦ 5’10” | 125lbs identifying features ♦ Piper’s ears are pierced, and she has a few peppered over her arms and legs, mostly the hazards of daily life in her previous living situation. overall appearance ♦ People see Piper most often in rather baggy and mismatched clothing, and while she’s really good at making it look intentional, the wear and tear on it is a little obvious. She tends to pick more muted colors, though she’ll wear the occasional bright color, usually when she’s performing. For the most part, however, she will stick to the basic jeans and oversized sweater look, with a pair of chucks an occasional scarf that she can smush down enough to make room for her violin. Speaking of the violin, it’s almost always attached to her person, and it certainly looks worse for the wear. It’s very apparent to anybody who sees it that it’s going to need to be replaced soon, though Piper keeps playing it as if that is not the case. When it comes to her hair, it is almost always in somewhat unruly natural curls, though she’ll try to fight it into an actual hairstyle occasionally. It’s not easy, however, and more often than not it stays either down and around her face or loosely tied back. It’s very evident from looking at Piper that she’s desperately trying to make ends meet, if only because she constantly looks tired. Buildwise, she is rather tall—more so than average for a girl—and a bit thinner than she probably should be.

In fact, she goes out of her way to make sure of it. Around other people, she’s a very cynical person about life and the nature of humanity as a whole, and often tends to believe the worst in people. That being said, she doesn’t necessarily voice those feelings. She is incredibly touch averse, except for when it comes to her brothers or people that she trusts, and will often lash out in anger when someone touches her without her permission. Many of her reactions come across as angry, but this is frequently because she’s scared more than anything, and since she spent most of her childhood just remaining quiet, and she’s made a promise to herself that she will never go back to that again. When meeting new people, she often comes off as abrasive, and that’s only if she doesn’t come off as disinterested, but the fact of the matter is that she’s been through an awful lot for someone so young, and she prefers to push people away instead of giving them a chance to hurt her.
Around her brothers, however, Piper is a completely different person. From the time that Jaxon was put in juvie, she became the protector and the nurturer, which is something that made her incredibly maternal. It’s something that still comes out to this day, and she will frequently check in with her brothers to make sure that they’re doing okay, and that they have everything they need. She is also incredibly hardworking, because someday she wants to get on her feet so she never has to depend on another person ever again. She hates feeling dependent on anybody, partially because she knows that dependency can be warped into something else, and that is not something that she ever wants to deal with again.
the history
father ♦ Unknown mother ♦ Adelaide Davies, 36, Sex worker siblings ♦ Jaxon Kane Davies , 22, older brother Ezra John Davies , 17, little brother @eliot , 16, littler brother important people ♦ N/A hometown ♦ Seattle, Washington overall history ♦ TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual abuse of a child, domestic violence, PTSD
By the time that Piper came screaming into the world, Adelaide Davies had already had one other child: Jaxon. The fact that their mother was barely home, or really around to take care of them more than absolutely necessary, meant that each sibling formed an intensely tight bond, often finding ways to take care of themselves while their mother was out on the streets, working or picking up her latest boyfriend. As a young child, she was saved from the abuse of the deadbeat men her mother dated by her oldest brother, and it was her who would curl up in the bathroom with the other two, holding them close to her and trying her best to keep them quiet, trying to remain oblivious to what happened outside the door. Even at a young age, she knew that it wasn’t good.
In some ways, being discovered by a teacher and being taken away from their childhood home was the best thing that had happened to her. In others, it was the worst. For the most part, however, it seemed like they just traded one form of abuse for another. Jaxon did his best, and Piper knew it, but sometimes it was hard to remember that when various foster fathers found their way into her bed at night. Still, at least they were together, at least they were there for each other. However, when she was around ten years old, she shifted for the first time. It was the middle of the night, and she had the same dream she had been having for a few nights: a dream in which she was soaring through the sky, far away from the problems that had plagued her waking life. When she woke up, she could feel her fingers prickling painfully, and there were a few times where she found something that looked like feathers on her pillow. It wasn’t until she was eleven when she managed to fully transform for the first time.
For the next few years, she spent her time going on the occasional night flight, which she was sure gave Jaxon a heart attack if he came to check on her. However, when she was twelve, something special happened: a music teacher took interest in her. She had been lingering outside the music room, listening to the orchestra play and revelling in the music that filtered out the partially open door. Said teacher took an interest in her, and slowly taught her how to play the violin during homeroom, or letting her sit in one of the practice rooms and teach herself if she had another lesson. In the time that they spent together, Piper grew incredibly attached to the instrument, and she threw herself into learning to play it with such an enthusiasm that even the teacher noticed. Slowly, she had scraped together some money, and when it came time for the school to buy new violins for the students to rent, the teacher gave her one of the old ones. It was worse for the wear and well-used, but Piper treasured it all the same, and it joined her few belongings. They moved from foster home to foster home following mysterious fires that seemed to plague the houses of the places they went, and eventually, her older brother was arrested. From then on, the role of protector fell to her, and to be honest, she was not as good at it as Jaxon had been. Despite the fact that she tried to find a way to redirect the abuse to her, there were things that just slipped through the cracks.
When she was eighteen, however, she was tossed out of foster care, because the family that they were with couldn’t make money on her anymore. Not wanting to be separated from her family, Piper tried to gain custody of her two brothers, but with no steady income and no place to live, she was denied. Determined to do better, she took to performing on the street by day, and flew to keep an eye on them at night, occasionally going without more than a few hours of sleep because she refused to stop checking on her brothers. In the meantime, she began squatting in an empty house on the outskirts of the city, and performing with the same, “well-loved” violin that she began playing as a child in order to try to get enough money to actually find a job and a place to live. So far she has been mostly unsuccessful, though she’s heard talk of a speakeasy that caters specifically to those who are gifted, and has thought about seeing if the owner needs a hand.
