Cameron was sure one of his customers was fucking with him. This woman came in several times per month, claiming that his work on her car had not been satisfactory. She came in with problems that he knew he'd taken steps to prevent. Multiple complaints had resulted in her requiring discounted service and there was no way in hell Cam was going to continue to allow himself to be hustled.
So... it was probably moderately illegal, but he didn't think it was actually going to cause any harm. In his defense, the probability of Jaxon Kane Davies -- the identity he'd chosen to take on for the moment -- crossing his path while he was outside of Phalanx was, like, one in four billion. Of course, that was Cam's luck.
He'd seen his demonic customer in the Quarter Café and so he decided (albeit without much thought) to follow her and see if he could catch her fucking with her car when she got home. As she headed for her car, Cam morphed his body into a replica of Jaxon, knowing that she would recognize Cameron's face right away.
He didn't exactly plan what he was going to do when she got to her car, but he didn't end up needing to. Out of nowhere, he looked up and met eyes with the other student.
"You're fucking kidding me," he thought, his heart racing as he quickly turned to face the wall of a building, morphing back to his own body before looking back at Jax.
"I-- sorry, I didn't think--" he stammered, absolutely incredulous. "I didn't want someone to recognize me... and I can only use bodies when I know what people look like." And he'd seen Jaxon so often that the guy provided a good mask.
Eliot was back in his life and Jaxon still couldn't believe it. He walked down the French Quarter, looking in shop windows to try to find something that looked like anything that Aisling might enjoy. He couldn't stop thinking about her and it was likely going to drive him insane. It was finally starting to feel like a real life. His siblings were coming back together, he had a pretty girl, and Christmas was right around the corner. He stopped in front of a store, spying necklaces on display on a purple necklace that he could picture hanging around Aisling's neck.
A part of him knew that it was weird that he wanted to buy her something for Christmas. Another part of him was controlling his common sense and controlling his walk. Another part of him was talking to the woman behind the counter, looking up moon phases and purchasing a necklace for a girl who he didn't even know if she liked him back.
His common sense was limited and he had to know that none of this was a good idea.
Walking down the street, his purchase in his hand and was shocked when he saw his own face. Not someone who looked like him. Not someone who was similar. His. Face. Jaxon stood with wide eyes, looking over the same unruly mop of blonde hair and dimples. Watching the Face Thief turn to the brick building, the mop of blonde shrank and darkened. The features changes into someone almost familiar. When the person finally turned, he realized who it was.
"Cam!" He was honesty more impressed than mad. He grinned at the fellow resident of Phalanx and looked around to make sure no one else spotted the change. "That was amazing! Did you catch her?" He asked with an amused grin. He had heard about skinwalkers, apparently there was one who used to work with his mom who would use the ability to her advantage, but since coming to Phalanx he had not seen the ability in action.

Getting caught in the act by the person Cam was morphed into was easily one of his worst fears. The tension all over his body eased as he realized that Jaxon wasn't angry. In fact, he seemed almost excited over it. He let out a breath of relief.
"I swear-- I wouldn't have done anything to get you into trouble," he promised, grinning slightly as he was able to let his guard down. "Nah. Once she got to her car... I couldn't keep up," he admitted. Which was, again, not the best planning on his part. "She's this customer at Agard's. I think she's trying to get money out of us any way she can. She's kind of crazy." So, at least he wasn't trying to rob a bank or something. There'd been slight method to his madness.
"Anyway... it's not that important," he said, waving it off. "You headed back to Phalanx, or...?" Because Cameron needed to go back and relax before he ended up breaking and entering somewhere. "You... talk to Aisling lately?" Christ, Aisling was going to kill him. But he had the opportunity to talk to Jaxon and he couldn't help but take advantage of it. "She... mentioned you were going through some stuff. Didn't give any specifics but.. I hope everything works out. With you and your family." The guy seemed nice enough and Cam did wish him well. He knew that Aisling had been concerned for him.
"Sorry, not trying to get in your business or anything."
This world. This world was amazing. He was getting to know people who could do all sorts of amazing things and he couldn't believe the community that they had together in New Orleans. He always thought that he was a freak for his ability, and he didn't even know what half of his siblings could do until they got involved with Phalanx.
Jaxon waved his hand, waving off Cam's insistence that he would never get him in trouble. "Trust me, my face would probably only get you into more trouble." He had been arrested, served time in jail, he did what he had to do in order to get down to Louisiana. He slept in parks, he did everything that he had to in order to get back to a life with his siblings. "Sounds fair to me then. I'm out of the setting buildings on fire business, but I could hit a car if you'd like? Gas tanks make for great booms."
The firebug grinned at Cameron and nodded, "Yeah, let's go." The two of them heading back to the school and getting to know each other seemed like a nice moment. He wanted to get to know people at Phalanx outside of his family and Aisling. "Uh, yeah. We talked a little bit-" He knew that he should have spent more time talking to Aisling and let her know everything that was happening with his family. "Yeah, um." He ran his fingers through his curly blond hair and tried to think of how to phrase it to someone who clearly cared for Aisling.
"I have two brothers and a sister. I love them, and we got separated when I- when I went to prison. I'm trying to find them. One down, two more to find."

Cameron laughed, looking at the ground sheepishly. In hindsight, maybe choosing Jaxon hadn't even been that great an idea on his part. He laughed even more when Jax mentioned blowing things up. "No shame, huh? I have to admit seeing her car explode would make me feel some sick satisfaction." Of course, that would probably bring her back to the shop in a rage because she'd assume it was Cameron's fault despite having no evidence to support her claim.
Walking back to Phalanx, Cam realized that he'd probably overstepped, but he didn't cut him off. Jaxon would share what he wanted to. "Sorry... I'm not like... spying for her or anything," he assured, grinning slightly. "I just... know you guys have been hanging out so... I'm just curious." He just wanted to get to know him a little bit, but he was a little awkward and didn't want to go about it the wrong way.
He nodded, understanding having sibling drama better than anyone. Although, it sounded like Jax had completely different relationships with his own siblings. "Congrats-- that's awesome," he said, happy that the guy had made any progress in finding them. "Good luck. Seriously." He hoped that worked out. He seemed like a good guy.
"You're close with them, then? That's cool." It must have been nice-- he admired that. "So... fires, huh?" he asked, figuring he'd steer toward a subject that he seemed to feel more comfortable discussing. "How does that work... can you make the fire, or do you need some to work with?"
Jaxon was happy to spend some time with someone else at Phalanx. He was really enjoying getting to know Aisling, he had never met someone so sweet and warm. The night when they met and she curled up to sleep next to him had been the best night rest he had gotten in probably his entire life. "I mean, say the word and it's done." He said with a smirk, but he knew that Aisling would kill him if he tried. He also couldn't do that to his brothers and sister. They were just getting reunited and figuring out where the rest of his siblings were, he couldn't risk all of that, even if there was a certain appeal of a gas tank explosion.
"I figured you and Aisling are close, and I've been spending a lot of time with her, so I understand." He would be the same with any of his siblings if they wanted to date someone. He wanted his siblings to feel love and he hoped that they would feel the same for him. "I really like her. I've never really liked anyone."
Jaxon grinned when Cam gave his congrats to rebuilding the relationship with his siblings, "Yeah, our mom is a lost cause, so it's just the four of us." He just wanted to give them a good life and show Eliot, Ezra, and Piper that they deserved a decent life full of care and compassion. The foster care system failed them, and Jaxon did his best to keep them safe, but there was always more that he could have done. Burning down the houses, going to jail, it was the biggest regret of his life.
"Yeah, well, closer before I went to jail." He said, looking around his new community. The bright colors, the old buildings, he loved it so much more than the cold steel, and giant hills all around Seattle. "But growing up was tough, so it was a lot of me taking the brunt of the beatings, and Piper keeping the other two safe." He explained and then nodded about the fire to confirm. "It's not too hard, just mostly think about where I want it to be, I concentrate really hard on say, that woman's gas tank." He said with a smirk, "think about how it would ignite, think about everything that the fire would need to grow, and boom. Usually literally."
He knew that it was a weird ability, but he loved it. "What about you? How does the whole body snatching thing go?"

Cameron laughed, shaking his head and looking at the sidewalk, rubbing the back of his neck. "Thanks... but... I'm trying to stay out of jail," he explained. He was turning over a new leaf... or... or something.
He grinned, nodding. "She's great. And... she's said good things about you. You seem cool," he offered. He really meant it, and he didn't mean that about a lot of people. He was even thinking he'd enjoy hanging with Jaxon and Aisling... if it weren't for the fact that that'd make him a total cockblocker. "She likes you, too," he added hesitantly, nearly able to feel her knee in his balls for saying such a thing out loud. But hey, maybe if Jaxon knew how she felt, he wouldn't leave.
He nodded when Jaxon said that his mom was a lost cause. Cam felt bad that Jax felt the need to say that about his mother, but he certainly wasn't going to judge him for it. "Uh, yea. Parents can suck," he said, forcing a grin. "It sounds like you're doing a good job, though. I mean, with looking after them." God, he couldn't stand people who hurt other people intentionally. Had he ever witnessed something like what Jaxon had gone through, he'd have thrown some punches. He wanted to now, for Jax, and he barely knew the guy.
"That's crazy," he said, trying to imagine being able to make something explode. He couldn't help but feel like maybe it was a good thing he didn't have that ability. "I guess it's similar. I really have to concentrate," he explained. "Picture the person in my head and then... I'm them," he said, still in disbelief with how strange it sounded when he said it out loud. "And then... sometimes it doesn't take any concentration... it just happens. I don't get it." Fortunately he had more of an idea of how to control it now, but it had been a struggle for a while.
"You like Phalanx?" he asked, wondering how other people had adjusted to it. "It's cool... that Ash does it... goes and finds people who need him." It was almost weird to Cameron, how much effort the man was willing to put into helping people he didn't even know.
Jaxon would not recommend Cam going to jail, and if he was being completely honest he did not want to be the one to tell Aisling that Cam got arrested while they were hanging out together. He really liked her, and he also knew that she could wield a might lamp when pressed.
He felt the blush pull at his cheeks when Cam admitted that Aisling said good things about him too. "I think she's cool too." Jaxon shoved his hands into his pockets and felt a goofy grin pull at his features. "And I like her too, a lot." It was a little weird telling this to Cam and not Aisling, but it would happen soon. He liked her too much and couldn't hold in that for too long.
Not a good enough job. He lost track of them and he needed to keep them all together, but failed at that. They were slowly coming together, but he wouldn't feel right about having any of this with Aisling without knowing that Piper and Ezra were safe too. "Thanks for saying that."
Changing his face, his appearance, it seemed like such a cool ability. Probably came in a lot more useful than being able to start fires everywhere. He was still learning how to grasp the ability, and it was a daily struggle not to accidentally set something on fire with his nightmares. Keeping a close hold on Aisling while he slept was helping with all of that, but he heard some rumors from the teacher's at Phalanx that they were getting over crowded and were going to need roommates soon. Probably make it a lot harder to keep Aisling curled up in his bed with him.
"I do, it's the first place I've lived where no one has tried to beat my ass, so it's good in my book." He ran his fingers through his curly blond hair and looked at Cam, "What about you? How long have you been at Phalanx?"

When Jaxon thanked Cam, he grinned. "Look, I'm sure it's more complicated than what I know, but you deserve to give yourself some credit for the effort." Cam didn't know the whole story, and coming from Cam, maybe the compliment meant less to Jax. But when it came down to it, Jaxon was trying to be a good brother. It was more than Cam or Malcolm had been willing to try for years.
Jaxon mentioned being safe in Phalanx, reminding Cam of his limited knowledge of the boy's past. "Hey-- if you ever want to talk about anything, you can with me," he assured. He was a bit awkward about it but the offer was genuine. Cam wasn't great at talking to people himself, but if Jaxon ever wanted that in anyone, Cam was willing to be that person for him. "If you don't want to, it's cool. I don't talk to people anyway," he added. There was no pressure.
"Jeez-- kind of a while now. I lost track. Four years? Something like that. Maybe a little longer." It seemed like he'd been there forever at that point. He should have known the exact answer, having gotten there so soon after losing his father. But he didn't. He'd tried so hard to forget that part of his life that sometimes he believed it had really worked.
"Ais and I were thinking of hitting up that new bookstore soon," he pointed out. "I think it's gonna be cool. It's supposed to have a lot of different stuff, like some used books and some collectible items. I know, it sounds nerdy," he added in good humor. "But if you're into that kind of thing, you should come with us. We'll probably just find a spot to sit and hang out for a while." Maybe it'd be a casual way for them to get to know each other better.
Jaxon nodded when Cam said that it was more complicated than what he knew, "My mom was not someone who should have had children. She did, probably cause she thought she could do it? I don't know. But there's four of us, and I did what I could to keep them safe. I did everything I could. Then I did some stupid shit cause I was desperate and that led to seven years in juvie. They only let me out cause I turned twenty-one. I just want them back, I just want to be the big brother they deserve." he wasn't sure if Cam had a family, he never heard him talking about anything like that, but that didn't mean he didn't.
Cam was a nice guy and he was enjoying being able to spend more time with him and to get to know someone who meant to much to Aisling. "Thanks Cam. I appreciate it and same here. Honestly, anything you got I promise I've heard worse." He grinned, enjoying that Cam admitted that he didn't really like to talk to people and he was still willing to talk to him about whatever he needed from him. Made him feel special. "You seem pretty popular at Phalanx, at least Aisling is always talking about you."
Jaxon lit up when he was invited to the new bookstore and grinned at his new friend, "Yeah that sounds amazing. I'm pretty nerdy myself. I like to draw comics." He admitted, knowing that it was something that probably wasn't going to get him anywhere in his life, but it was what he wanted to do. He wanted to give the kids of Phalanx stories that reflected who they were, not that X-Men didn't do the job, but something a little more real.
"That sounds great. Four years here, huh? You have family that visits or is it just you and Ais?"
