Evan looked over at Adam, hearing the familiar thoughts in her head. He regretted leaving her on her desk that night. She looked him over, knowing deep down that she could forgive him being nervous and that she still wanted him too. He was her boss, and she was serious about her career. She couldn't have people thinking that she was just trying to sleep her way to the top, when it was just because she wanted Adam. She enjoyed spending time with him and she wanted to get to know him better.
She really wanted to get to know him bent over a sink as quickly as possible.
Evan smirked when her brother went on and on about how many late nights she was spending at In the NOLA, "I mean, Adam offered me a pretty big raise the other night but he didn't want to give it to me. Even when I was begging for it." She looked at the ginger man and knew that his face was going to be as red as his hair. "I think he would want to retain me, keep me for the paper, but I swear at times his ego gets in the way, sometimes I'm practically choking on his cockiness." She teased and took a sip of her wine.
While Monday spoke, she looked over Adam hoping that she would be able to get a chance to speak with him privately. She was grateful that Mallory hadn't shown up yet, since she wasn't exactly sure how her best friend was going to feel about Evan messing around with her twin brother. She knew that if the roles were reversed, she would hate to see Mallory and either of her brothers together. It would just be too weird. "I think that has more to you than the nickname, Will."
She rolled her eyes, "You sure it wasn't you with the traumatic brain injuries?" She teased, knowing that Will was not always the brightest in the world. The room contained with two people who Evan had fooled around with, and he had no idea. "Nah, I think Adam could get me off."
Seeing Mallory come into the room, Evan crossed the room and hugged her best friend. They had been so close for so long, she almost felt guilty for what she was doing with Adam. "Finally made it." She teased Mallory, letting go of the hug and refilled her glass of wine. "Let's go eat." She walked into the dining area and locked eyes with Adam, hoping that he would understand what she was saying,
“Mal,” Thank God, he thought he would have to be stuck in this awkward hell the whole night by himself. After the initial relief passed, irritation flooded through Adam’s veins. “Why are you so late?” He complained – completely ignoring her rude comment on his mismatching socks. She didn’t pay much attention to her twin after that, as she scurried around the kitchen greeting everyone else. Adam rolled his eyes, that was so Mallory. “We might talk a raise – after she quits scaring off our interns.” Adam attempted a grin, giving Evan a pointed look. The turnover with interns, especially ones that had to put up with Evan, was staggering. He was certain there was a correlation between the two. Adam watched and listened intently as the company talked amongst themselves. A nervous laugh escaped Adam’s throat as Will said he ought to be thankful he never had to fight her off. He was sure he’d prefer that over whatever was going on right now. Chatting, joking. It all felt like they were old friends, and Adam was the odd one out.
Evan’s blatant innuendos seemed to pass over everyone else’s heads, something that seriously vexed Adam. His face was easily a few shades redder than it should’ve been, and it wasn’t something he could pass off as simply being warm. “Ha ha, Evan, you’re hilarious.” Another forced grin. He was filled with regret. Regret for ditching Evan, and regret for coming to this blasted dinner. He drained his bottle of beer and unceremoniously announced he would follow Evan to the bathroom to do the same.
Once Adam was certain that the rest of the party wouldn’t hear their conversation, he turned to Evan his face nearly as red as his hair. “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” He asked in a loud whisper. Adam rubbed his temples – there was a headache forming there. All of Evan’s colorful commentary was giving Adam… Ideas. He’d love to see her bent over that sink right about now. God, Mal would kick his ass for thinking things like that of her best friend. He deeply regretted leaving Evan on her desk that night, and he wanted to do anything he could to right that wrong. "I'm sorry."

Mal smiled as she gave her best friend a hug. Her and Evan had been fast friends from the moment they had met, and Mal cherished her more than just about anybody in her entire life. Except maybe Adam. “I know, I’m so sorry I’m late.” She turned to look at her brother as he asked why she was late, and she shot an apologetic look his way. It must have been awkward as hell for him to be here when he only knew Evan, especially when she had been the one to accept the invitation. “I got an email while I was getting ready from some guy threatening to sue me and the paper over an article I wrote, so I had to do some damage control.” Normally, she would have called Adam for help since he seemed to be better at the legal and business side of the paper, but he had been working a lot of late nights at the office, and she had wanted him to have some time off. Apparently, that had been the wrong move. At the mention of a raise, however, Mal arched her eyebrow at her twin brother. “Hang on, Evan’s been working a ton of late nights, if anybody deserves a raise it’s her… even if she does scare off all of our interns.” Even Mal couldn’t deny that her friend was a little intense, but she knew that intensity came from a place of passion, and she didn’t think that her friend should be punished for that.
She smiled warmly at Monday as Will introduced him, immediately struck by how handsome he was. “The pleasure’s mine.” As Will mentioned that he was the mastermind, Mal forced her eyes away from Monday and looked at her host for a moment. “Really? Well if I wasn’t already excited about this I would be now… if you’ll let me eat since I made you all wait.” She chuckled and poured herself a glass of wine as Monday busied himself setting out various platters, and as each one was uncovered, she felt her hunger much more keenly. It was the most delicious meal she had seen in a long time. “Is this how Thanksgiving is for you every year?” She posed the question to Will. “Because if it is, shame on you for not inviting me sooner.” A light nudge to his arm accompanied her words, even though she knew perfectly well that she would have refused if it meant abandoning her parents on a holiday. If there was one thing that Mal was, it was dedicated to her family, even if sometimes that felt like her undoing.
Mallory watched as her best friend and her twin brother walked off to wash their hands. When she had walked into the room, she had felt a kind of tension in the air, but she had legitimately thought that was just her brother being… well, her brother, and landing himself in hot water with everybody else around them. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if there was something more going on, particularly given the redness to his face before he had left with her. For half a second, she thought about following, about asking both of them what was going on, but the hunger in the pit of her stomach overwhelmed any ideas that she might have had, and she took a seat at the table, setting her untouched glass of wine on the table, and looking at the absolute feast before her. “Monday, it looks absolutely amazing!” She couldn’t wait to dig in, though she hardly knew which dish to try first.
