full name ♦ Zaria Faye (ZAH-ree-ə) nicknames ♦ Z or Ghost age ♦ Nineteen birthday ♦ July 23rd, 1999 occupation ♦ Unemployed school ♦ Monroeville Asylum species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Ghost Physiology how the ability works ♦
Zaria has the unique ability of ghost physiology. This means she can change her body into a ghost-like form, rendering her incorporeal for a short amount of time. Not many physical changes are noticed when Zaria is in her ghost, but the big one is that her body looks semi-translucent. She's no where near invisible in this form, yet one can clearly see through her. When in her ghost form she has the ability to pass through solid objects for a small amount of time. She is only able to stay in her intangible form for two minutes before she has to enter another persons body or return to her tangible form. The longer she is in a form of intangibility, her molecules become increasingly unstable and at the two minute mark they will dissipitate leaving her... dead.
The more dangerous aspect of her ability is that it allows her to possess others. This is done by completely phasing her body into another beings. This gives off the image of what most would consider a ghost taking control over someones body (hence the nickname). When possessing someone, Zaria can completely take over their motor functions and all of their senses. She also has the option of just inhabiting someones body without actually taking control. (OOC Note: This ability will never be used on another character without their OOC permission)
This ability has a few intricacies that make it even more dangerous. When in possession of someone, Zaria is in essence blending her mind and spirit with theirs. With some effort, she can read surface thoughts while in possession or even go deeper and access memories. In addition, she can openly communicate with the possessed target once inside. This comes in handy when secret conversations are needed.
While possession seems like a powerful ability to possess, it does come with its fair share of drawbacks. The first one being the connection the user has with the target. Any physical ailments the target obtains while Zaria is inside carries over to her own body when she comes out. This includes cuts, burns, illness, poison, and even death. For this reason, Zaria takes extra caution to make sure the host body doesn't come to harm while she is inside.
The duration that this ability can be in use is solely dependent on willpower. If the possessed target is conscious upon entry, it's completely possible for them to fight back out of sheer will. It does take a lot of willpower to contend with Zaria's own, but it has been done in the past. This also goes to say that if Zaria's heart isn't in it - meaning lack of willpower - then she can easily be pushed out of the target.
The biggest drawback, and the reason she is where she is, has to be the mental toll possession can take on Zaria. Essentially she fuses her own mind and body with anothers when she initiates a possession. If she maintains this fusion for too long, her sense of self begins to fade and she'll slowly begin to take on memories of the one she possessed as if they were her own. This has a lasting effect even after the possession ends. Zaria has developed traumatic memories, negative personality traits, and obscure interests as a result of prolonged use of this ability. As a rule, she will never possess someone for more than thirty minutes and even that is pushing it for her.

Born with very model-like features, Zaria stands fairly tall with her thin frame and olive skin complexion. Appearance has always been a thing that she took seriously, always making an effort to keep up with her exhaustive grooming habits. It's a rare sight to ever see a blemish on her flawless skin. On top of that, clothing is a point of pride for Zaria as well. Her fashion sense could be described as trendy. She makes sure she stays up to date on whats in style, never wanting to be off brand.

The bad guy knows they are the bad guy. Zaria is like-wise well aware of how she is percieved by others. Selfish, cold-hearted, and callous are words often thrown her way. Words that have long since lost the desired effect of getting a reaction out of her, because they are for all intent and purposes completely accuarate. She is not the type of person one typically looks to befriend. In fact, she doesn't have many friends to begin with.
Zaria is very much about survival. Her own survival that is. She will do anything it takes to make sure she is set up for the future. She prefers to rely only on herself, and feels the company of "friends" to be taxing. Her loyalty to herself, is something she would never betray. The same can't be said to the other company she keeps. Since she is aware of how she is percieved, it's not difficult for her to turn on a "nice girl" act if she needs it. This is how she manages to have "friends" in the first place. Or followers. Manipulation isn't her favorite thing to do however, as she would much rather just be upfront and blunt about how she feels about a situation or person. Still, if a situation calls for it, she can manipulate with the best.
Not having real friends doesn't equate to Zaria being a socially awkward teen. The girl has plenty of confidence, and has no difficulty talking to others. She holds herself with a certain sense of pride, and presents herself with a certain heir of superiority. Sarcasm is her best friend when it comes to disarming others. That is when she's not using her words to verbally take someone down.
Deep down Zaria doesn't want to be the way she is. She knows the betrayl, sharp words, and disregard for others are all bad. There was a time where she thought her actions were justified. Not anymore. It's been a while since she felt that she was on the right side of things. Now she is resigned to her fate of being the bad guy. A deeply pessismistic view, but it gets her through life. Accepting reality is the key to not falling for lies.
An odd aspect of her personality are the traits that she's developed from people she decided to possess for too long. It's completely normal for her to blab about a completely contradictory interest to her core likes. In extreme cases she'll have flashbacks to traumatic moments that never happened to her personally. For this reason, and to be explained further in history, Zaria tends to be freaked out by loud noises or sudden surprises.

"Hurt people hurt people". That's how the saying goes. The theory behind it is that if someone has been psychologically or emotionally scarred, then they are more likely to scar someone else in the future. It's a theory that the abuse others place on you diminish your morality or character. It's a bullshit theory. The truth of the matter is hurt people don't hurt people. The privlleged do. Those people who have never experienced pain or heartbreak a day in their lives. Idly sitting by and watching the suffering of others from the comfort of their sheltered lifestyles, not knowing the effects that their actions can take. Not knowing that the selfish deeds that entertain you for a few hours have shattered the spirit of another. Those are the people who do damage unto others. Those are the evil ones.
Zaria was one of the evil ones.
Born to a financially stable family in a well off area, Zaria was without any sort of tragic backstory. Both her parents were still together. She was loved and cared for. Educated, plenty of friends, and adored by most people who met her. There was no reason for her life to take the change it did, but some things can't be explained.
When Zaria's abilities first presented themselves, she was eleven years old. It was an uneventful moment in which she walked through the closed door to her room. A simple feat of intangibility was all she thought she was capable of at first. It wasn't until the next day when she got curious that she realized what her true abilities were. Walking down a dark street, Zaria thought it would be funny to walk through another person and watch their reaction. She was unable to erad their expression when she realized it was the same as hers. As in she was in that unsuspecting victims body. The experience is a hard one to describe, but intense fear would be the word used to best sum up her first possession. It took her close to thirty minutes to figure out how to escape the body. Once she figured that out, that fear was replaced by something else... intrigue.
This new aspect to her ability opened her mind to a whole world of possibilities. She could live any life she wanted, through anyone she chose. She already had a lot of things going right for her, but not as much as Jonathan from school - his parents were millionaires she heard. That was to be her first target. Her first step towards an inevitable journey into darkness. Taking the first opportunity she could, Zaria stepped into the body of her twelve year old peer. She was only meant to spend an hour in his body. Just enough time to see how extravagantly he lived. That hour turned into eight, which almost destroyed her. It did destroy Jonathan. When she finally managed to exit his body, the boy was left in a vegative state. Two minds weren't meant to inhabit the same body for that long, so the weaker one retreated.
No one knew the true reason that Jonathan ended up in a coma. Zaria was still finding reasons to ensure herself that it wasn't her fault. See, little Johnny had a troubled childhood history of abuse and homelessness before being adopted into the wealthy family that Zaria knew of. For a long time, he was struggling to find the willpower to do anything. He didn't have the fortitude to even resist Zaria when she made her entry. Nor was he able to prevent her from absorbing his trauma.
Years had passed, and Zaria was now 16 years old. A teenager - but still a child. Five years had gone by, and no one was able to find out the truth about that little boy. Zaria had continued to use her powers in secret whichever way she saw fit, still unconvinced that she had caused that incident. Even the weekly flashbacks of traumatic events that she could've sworn weren't hers at first were eventually written off as a normal thing. Her parents were fed the lie that she was just having nightmares, which is why she needed to sleep with a night light on despite never needing one before. A fear of the dark was never an affiliction of hers until Jonathan.
It wasn't until a cold morning in december that her actions finally caught up to her. The story is as embarrasing to remember as it is to tell. Which is why she's only told her therapist. Everything started with her best friend at the time. A beautiful blonde hair, blue eyed, beauty named Becca. To say Zaria was jealous of the girl was an understatement. Her friend had everything she wanted, and Z couldn't be content with the simply above average life she felt she lived. Her solution? Possession. Only for a day though. Just to see how it would feel to have the admiration, the respect, and the perfect boyfriend. The last time she possessed someone for over an hour was with Jonathan.
Needless to say, it didn't end well. Becca had endured more trauma in her life than Zaria was aware of, and after twelve hours of inhabiting her body, Z began to mistake that trauma for her own. In fact, she started to mistake a lot of traits as her own. She wasn't sure what was hers, and what belonged to Becca anymore. Abuse, heartbreak, abandonment... it was all starting to become her. Realizing what was happening, Z wrestled herself out of her best friends body after twelve whole hours. Only to find that Becca now suffered the same fate as Jonathan. Comatose.
This wasn't something she could lie her way out of. Once the authorities arrived on the scene to see Zaria on her knees crying next to her best friend, she couldn't help but confess to the whole thing. She would like to think she was becoming a nicer person to have given a genuine confession like that, but she knew what the truth was. That was Becca's personality shining through. Even with her horrific past, she was always the good one.
Much to Zaria's surprise, she wasn't actually taken to jail. At least not in the technical sense. Instead, due to her dangerous abilities and the effects it was having on her psyche, she was placed in an institution called Monroeville Asylum. Since possessing Becca for that long, Z has been haunted by traumatic visions of abuse from the past. A past life that she doesn't think is hers, but she's not so sure anymore. She can't imagine that Becca was this jumpy or easily put on edge by things, but apparently she didn't know the girl as well as she once thought.
Zaria has been at the asylum for around three years now, and has built herself a reputation for being somewhat of a "teachers pet". Sucking up to whoevers in power to ensure she gets the best treatment possible. She's not naive to the stories of injustice spreading through the halls. Quite the opposite in fact. She's trying to make sure that she doesn't have to stand in front of the injustice. That she is the one spared before everyone else. She is a survivor after all.
