AISLING MAEVE DONOGHUE
the basics
full name ♦ Aisling Maeve Donoghue nicknames ♦ Ais age ♦ Twenty-One birthday ♦ August 15th, 1997 occupation ♦ Barista school ♦ Student at Phalanx, previously at Monroeville species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Dream Manipulation how the ability works ♦ With this ability, Aisling can create, enter, and manipulate the dreams of not only herself, but others as well. This can include suppressing, fabricating, and influencing the direction of dreams and nightmares. While many would believe that the manipulation of dreams is the easiest due to the positive energy surrounding them, for Aisling it would quite the opposite. It is with great ease that she can manifest and manipulate the nightmares of people, which further weakens her ability to make positive dreams happen. She can give people the ability to dream lucidly while she is within their mind, but the moment she leaves, their control over the scenario vanishes, too.
At her angriest, Ais is able to entrap people in REM sleep for upwards of three hours with sporadic night terrors. This was once an ability that people would have lingering thoughts about after she had invaded their mind, but the use of it frequently allowed her to develop the ability to physically harm people in the waking world through their sleep, thus blurring the lines between the waking world and dreams.
The downside of this is that she will often find her own abilities suppressed for several hours while she recovers. In addition, the more frequently Aisling finds herself using the ability, the less control she has over her own dreams. While she typically starves herself of the dreamworld, her exhaustion from manipulating the dreams of others makes her susceptible to the terror that she inflicts on others. There is often a demonic looking creature hovering just outside of her conscious and it is the one thing that prevents her from completely losing control of her ability.
gender ♦ Female (she/her) sexuality ♦ Demisexual
the appearance
face claim ♦ Taissa Farmiga height and weight ♦ 5ft 4in ; 120 pounds identifying features ♦ No tattoos, but Aisling does have her ears pierced. In addition, she has a lichtenberg figure starting at her left shoulder and reaching out towards the right.
overall appearance ♦ Aisling stands at a height of five feet and four inches, quite average for women. What she lacks in stature, she makes up for in the way that she carries herself. Despite being rather small in size as well, Ais has a full figure with curves in all of the right places. Her clothes typically lean towards a more of a grunge style than girly, but that isn’t to say that she can’t get dolled up when the need arises for it. She is never seen without the piercings in her ears (three in each lobe), and a dainty crescent moon necklace. Her favorite footwear varies between an old pair of Doc Martens and her converse - both of which have served her well over time.
the personality
likes ♦ Adventure Fire Desserts Mayhem
dislikes ♦ Monroeville Being cooped up Being talked down to Not having control of her dreams
strengths ♦ Resourceful Manipulative
weaknesses ♦ Guarded Possessive
dreams ♦ Aisling wants to have full control of her ability. She wants to find someone who makes her want to be a better person. fears ♦ Losing control and hurting herself.
overall personality ♦ Aisling is someone who likes to keep people at arm's length and often comes across like she doesn't care about the world. More often than not, she likes to be someone that is in a position of authority or power of some kind, if only because she has a very serious aversion to following the rules that other people have set. While she can follow directions, she prefers to pave her own path and not feel like she has to do what it is that other people want. Regardless of how much she might want to stay out of trouble, Aisling admittedly has a hard time keeping out of it. She's has seen herself caged up behind four walls far more often than what she would actually want to admit, but that doesn't mean she wont' square up if push comes to shove.
Despite some of her seemingly toxic behavior, there is a part of Aisling that longs for a place where she belongs and people to call her family. Unfortunately, her lack of self control and her inability to see the good in people has jaded her to such possibilities. Ultimately, as far as Ais is concerned, you're either with her or against her, with very little margin for room in between. Getting what she wants (or getting her way) is often priority number one and if you get in her way, you’re likely to get trampled.
the history
father ♦ Cillian Donoghue, 50, Politician ; former sales manager mother ♦ Eileen Donoghue [nee Fitzsimmons], deceased, former Monroeville Patient siblings ♦ N/A important people ♦ Gail Donoghue (nee Warner) (step mother), 48, Bank Teller Parker Donoghue, 6, Half-brother hometown ♦ New Orleans, Louisiana overall history ♦ tw: this applications contains mention of murder and attempted sexual assault
Cillian Donoghue met Eileen Fitzsimmons on a business trip in Limerick, Ireland. There was nothing romantic between them initially, no spark that drew the couple to one another. In fact, it wouldn’t be until three years later when the pair encountered one another again, this time living in the same apartment complex, that they decided to give dating a try. Neither of them were children anymore and were tired of the complications that came with the dating world. The result? They got married. They weren't madly in love, but they liked each other well enough. It wasn’t until after they were married that Cillian learned about his wife’s abilities. He had come home from work one day to find several objects in the house disintegrated on the floor.
It was then that Eileen confessed that she had manifested this ability when she was young and had always had a hard time controlling it, specifically when her abilities were running high. Cillian didn’t understand; how could he? He had no abilities of his own to speak of, nothing that he had kept secret from her. Realizing that they would need someone to help Eileen along, the couple made the decision to relocate to New Orleans, to a place where there were special schools that would take care of her. Though she was an adult, she still had no handle on her abilities and that had proven to be dangerous. While they had initially looked at Phalanx House, the ability of Disintegration and the way that she was unable to control it made it dangerous - made Eileen dangerous.
So she was taken away to Monroeville Hospital instead. And it was the last time that Eileen would see Cillian, until she gave birth to their daughter.
Aisling was born at the hospital, in the dark of a summer night. She was a beautiful little girl, a light in the darkness that had stolen Cillian’s heart in the absence of his wife who no longer wanted anything to do with him. Because Eileen was in the hospital, and unable to care for a child herself, Cillian took Aisling with him back to his home nearby. It was here that she would flourish. Cillian, acting as a single father, taught his daughter to walk, to talk, to ride a bicycle. All of the things that he wished he could share with Eileen, but his wife, as it had turned out, was slowly going insane in the hospital. Her ability was off the charts and it seemed that there was no end in sight for her. Having no other choice, Cillian filed for divorce. They say that was the thing that drove Eileen Donoghue over the edge.
As Aisling grew up, she questioned why she didn’t have a mother. Her dad always told her that her mother wasn’t healthy and had to go away until she was better. It sounded fake, even to her young ears. But there was no way for her to prove he was telling her something false. She was only a child. That was, until the day that her own ability began to manifest. She found herself in the middle of a dream, unfamiliar in everything that it was. She was dreaming, out of control of everything - until she wasn’t. She changed the course of her dream. As time went on, she began to shape things to her imagination, things she had never seen before but always wanted to. This continued on for a couple of years, until she was eleven. That was her first time going into a dream that wasn’t her own. It was a girl from her class, one that had been picking on her for weeks. She was dreaming… and then suddenly she wasn’t. The longer that Aisling stayed in the dream, the more it turned into a nightmare.
Exclamations started with the girl and quickly traveled through other students, people who she had invaded the minds of. They all remembered Aisling as the connection and word soon got back to her father. He didn’t understand what was happening, but he knew, because of who Aisling’s mother was, that it couldn’t have been good. One particular night, Aisling had a boy over while her father was out. He was an older boy, but they were friends - but he wanted more from her. She had fought him and, after knocking him unconscious with a lamp to the head, managed to slip into his head. She created his worst fear and used it to her advantage, her anger and betrayal spurring her onward. In the morning, Aisling was the only one to wake up.
After that, she was shipped off to Monroeville Hospital. It was here that she would come to hate her life, to hate the people in her life. It was at the hospital that she learned about her ability, Dream Manipulation; it was something that she had never really heard of, outside of lucid dreaming. But you didn’t need an ability to be able to do that. No, what Aisling could do was so much more dangerous and that was the reason that, for some time, she had found herself in solitary with power dampening people around her so that she couldn’t do harm to anyone else. As time went on, she started to lose herself within her own dreams, but that did little to curb the appetite to know what was going on in the minds of others. Soon she was able to manipulate their daydreams as well as those that occurred while they slept. Not everyone she visited was so kind though, as seen when she found herself on the opposing side of a woman with electrokinesis. To this day, Aisling has the Lichtenberg figure on her back.
Aisling stayed in Monroeville until she was twenty years old. It was then that the staff believed that she finally had control over her abilities and had learned not to use them for dark purposes. Of course it was easy to make people think that, regardless of how true it actually happened to be. Being released from the hospital had made her horribly aware of the fact that, while she had been admitted, her father never once visited her. Realizing that made her feelings of loneliness amplify and she found herself on the streets for two weeks until finding herself at Phalanx Home. It was here that they helped her get on her feet and she found herself a job as a barista. However, that only pays so many bills and she’s currently on the hunt for a second job - while trying to figure out how best to use her ability to her advantage in the real world.
