Guillaume Henri Charbonneau
the basics
full name ♦ Guillaume Henri Charbonneau nicknames ♦ Will, Willie, age ♦ twenty-eight birthday ♦ May 24th, 1990 occupation ♦ Real Estate Investor (partner at Live Oak Properties, LLC) school ♦ LSU, private schools species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Probability Manipulation how the ability works ♦ Will’s power mostly comes in handy in his line of work, but he’s used it, unknowingly, for much longer. He found he had a knack for predicting outcomes, even though they sometimes were quite unlikely. As a child, this made him a rather amateur bookie, testing himself against dice, cards, even the odd little league sport. After he recognized that he could subtlety influence things, he attempted it on people, but these often had unintended and awful consequences or didn’t work. Other people represent an element of chaos that he cannot manipulate, but he can, however, influence the environment they exist in, to lesser consequences. As such, he is mostly limited to sort of aggregating higher than normal luck, as he usually puts it. gender ♦ man, he/his sexuality ♦ Heterosexual but always curious
the appearance
face claim ♦ Chris Hemsworth height and weight ♦ 6'3" and 220 lbs identifying features ♦ have you seen his face? overall appearance ♦ Will had always been cute growing up, if a little chubby. When he hit puberty, he leaned out and started building muscle, a momentum that has not stopped since. He enjoys keeping himself in shape and dressing nicely, and very rarely is Will ever truly caught out of form. Even when he lets his hair grow a bit shaggy and long, it manages to look put together rather than sloppy. His easy-going personality makes his appearance feel natural, whether he wears suits to work or out on the town or sweatpants to the gym. He has grown to prefer a thicker beard, but he keeps it tailored at the behest of his partners at the firm. Despite this, he does like to play around with his appearance and has been known to show up to events with different looks randomly, but his warm blue eyes and easy smile always remain.
the personality
likes ♦ working with charities, having nights out on the town, challenges, dislikes ♦ being pigeonholed, being underestimated, violence, strengths ♦ charismatic, naturally "lucky" weaknesses ♦ tends to rely on his power a little too much (even though he tries not to), a pretty face dreams ♦ to have a reputation for caring and spreading his wealth fears ♦ that, without his power, people would not respond to him the same way and that he would not be near as successful as he is. that he can display some of his mother's depressive tendencies overall personality ♦ Will enjoys a challenge, which is one of the reasons he now stays far away from gambling dens, casinos, or sports betting. He found that they were not enough for him, but his career depends on other people enough that each win actually feels like a win and not a cheat. He refrains from attempting to use his power on other people, but he still fears that he relies too much on his internal, passive “luck.” Because of this, he tends to keep non-family at an arms’ length, but he is never opposed to having a good time with others. He is a bit of a man-about-town, his natural charisma and enthusiasm making him hard to ignore. His disarming smile and kind eyes hide a lot that very few people get to see all of.
Often in the papers for his wealth, Will is often mistaken for a certain type of man, and though he is thoroughly a “good ole boy,” he is also just a good man. Protective of his siblings and unafraid to indulge in emotion, Will personally pushes back the wealthy bachelor pigeonhole usually assigned to him. He donates to and helps fundraise for many charities, including Phalanx House, under its civilian façade. He tries to use his power for good as much as he can; though it makes him feel less guilty about using it for personal gain, he also just considers himself a bit of a modern Robin Hood.
the history
father ♦ Henri Louis Charbonneau, 55, owns a bank chain in New Orleans mother ♦ Justine Eloise Charbonneau, his birth mother died from suicide when he was 16. His father remarried six months later to his baby sitter growing up. siblings ♦ Evangeline Charbonneau , Gaspard J. Charbonneau important people ♦ Gideon "Monday" Beauchene hometown ♦ New Orleans, Louisiana overall history ♦ [Trigger warning for: death of a parent, suicide mention]
Guillaume Henri Charbonneau was born into a well-rooted set of families, and as a first son, he was naturally quite doted on. His younger siblings came soon after him, and even though he was quite young, he was determined to be the best big brother ever. He willingly let his siblings play with him and never let them feel left out; it was just the three of them and he loved it. Even young Evangeline was welcome on the countless adventures he and their middle brother planned, though he was a little more protective of Evan for her nature as both the youngest and the only girl.
Growing up, Will, though he carries his father’s name, was closer to his mother. Even he could tell that she had her fair share of problems, but to him, she hung the moon and the stars too. She dazzled him, and he strove to make her proud of him at every turn. His father, he was less close to, though he constantly tried to show off his accomplishments and awards to him. They would never be especially close, and their tenuous bond was only weakened by the secrets Evan shared with him. He and his father further divulged as Will entered his teenage years and tried to grow closer to his mother. Still, her problems were more than a young teenager could handle, and he turned to some of the vices of his father, exercising the unknown buddings of his own power.
The death of his mother was a dark time for Will, but being the eldest, he felt it was his duty to be a rock for his family. As his father retreated into himself, Will became more social and reaching out. This was when he discovered that the inkling he had had his entire life was true: just like Evan, he had an ability. His, he learned, made him a bit luckier than most, which felt bittersweet at the time. He tried to project his probability manipulation onto people at this time, but unlike staid cards or dice or other objects, something always went wrong with people. They may have acted initially the way he wanted, but there were always consequences. Even if there weren’t external costs, the guilt it caused him was enough to end that phase as quickly as it began.
His father remarried shortly before he was to move away for college, and he did his best to be part of the glue that held his further splintering family together. He had no love for his father or his stepmother, but he and his siblings had lost enough that he did not want to cause anymore rifts. With his middle brother, he convinced Evan to attend the wedding. Even though she was obviously sour, seeing his family together before he went away to college made him happy.
Unlike Evan, he never told his father about his power; he did not want the man to somehow take credit for or diminish his own accomplishments. He had told his siblings near after the death of their mother and expected them to keep his secret, as they had kept Evan’s. His power affected him less than his sister’s affected her, and he was able to explore the limits with relatively little harm to himself or others. Still, during college, he sought out ways to make himself better and to lessen his fear about passively influencing things or people too much.
He was able to belay his fears and channel his charisma – and just enough power – into building a career in investing in real estate. Though he started at a firm unrelated to his father’s bank, he still had to push back against accusations of nepotism. Through hard work and building his own connections and brands, he was able to rise quickly and become a partner in the firm. This comfortable position allows him to enjoy a certain way of life while also being able to spread his wealth into various charities and funds. He has been an anonymous donor to Phalanx House for quite a few years.
