So. As I am super terrible, I really shouldn't take on more than one character. HOWEVER, this does not stop them from taking over my mind. Therefore, I am leaving all these ideas here so I am not tempted for creation and so I have a happy box to shove them all in. There will be full applications or smatterings of a character flushed out and you all are welcome to take any and all.
Edmund Alexander Hawtrey III
Open for Taking!
Primrose Professor - 33 - Literary Manipulation
THE BASICS full name ♦ Edmund Alexander Hawtrey III nicknames ♦ Eddie, Ed, Hawtrey, Tre age ♦ thirty-three birthday ♦ March 4th, 1983 occupation ♦ English Professor school ♦ Primrose species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Literary Manipulation how the ability works ♦ The way Eddie's ability works is that he is able to manipulate and control written words. There are two ways that he uses this: one is that by reading passages aloud, he can summon characters, objects, and even buildings off the page and into reality. This means that anything brought into being does not function as an illusion but becomes a part of this world. So characters are real, tangible, and mortal and objects can be destroyed. He cannot control these projections either. They come into being with the motives and personalities as was written for them. If the same character is brought forth more than once, they have no recollection of being a part of this dimension. Any damage or altering done during the time summoned is permanent and doe not fade away when the projection does.
The second way this ability works is he can manipulate the actual words to come off the page and to take any form. The first requires immense concentration and can only hold for at most 6 hours at a time. His second ability function requires much less concentration, as long as the form does not take vigorous action. He cannot summon prints, and only has access to what is in front of him. He does not need to be touching it, but it does need to be in hard form and open. He cannot summon Captain Ahab if the copy of Moby Dick is closed. It must be open to a page where his name appears. Anything written on a phone or computer has no affect, but what is written in magazines, journals, newspapers, and books are viable.
Because of the immense mental toll this ability takes, he can only conjure one projection at a time and must rest heavily the day after. The only exception are projections from original works. So bringing forth anything written by the author themselves is twice as strong, lasts twice as long, and requires 1/2 the amount of mental power needed as opposed to summoning anything from copies of a work. gender ♦ male sexuality ♦ Heterosexual
THE APPEARANCE face claim ♦ Open height and weight ♦ 188 cm. 80 kg. identifying features ♦ overall appearance ♦ Eddie is a lanky fellow. He is tall, skinny, and his legs are like a stork. In fact, wearing shorts makes him feel very conscious. He isn't very muscular or broad and he obtains sunburns like it's his job. Eddie looks like the type of man who has spent the majority of his life in the back of a bookstore. Which he has. But he has this smile that lights up the whole room and eyes that are as big as kitten's. When you look at Eddie it just makes you want to go 'awww, wee lamb'
THE PERSONALITY likes ♦ + marmite + cats + reading in bed all day + his students + laughing at his own infallible sense of humor + rain + going to the barber dislikes ♦ + mismatched socks + American diners + altercations + cell phones + Lousiana weather + snails. (they are slimy, foul, and eat his tomatoes) + any time before noon strengths ♦ + patient + kind-hearted +tries to be a good teacher weaknesses ♦ + quite verbose in his head, but has trouble articulating at times + much too naive +crocodile tears dreams ♦ +Owning his own rare, antiquities book shop fears ♦ +One of his projections will do something awful and he'll be held accountable overall personality ♦ While Edmund is not necessarily shy, he can be a bit closed off. He is never one to talk about his past or go for hugs, but instead uses humor to mitigate situations. In short, he's a bit goofy. Much of Eddie is childlike. He loves to play games and joke. The only times this changes is when he is in the classroom. He expects much of his students and tries to inspire them though this at times can be in vain. He devours novels and will sometimes disappear for days while reading. Many outsiders would call his life lonely, with his apartment covered in papers to grade, take away boxes, and cat hair; but, Eddie is a very happy fellow with wants for a simple existence. His only wishes are a good book to read, a hot cup of tea, and a bright-eyed classroom.
THE HISTORY father ♦ Lord Edmund Alexander Hawtrey II, 67, Chancellor- University of Oxford mother ♦ Lady Helen Marine Hawtrey, 62, Socialite siblings ♦ None. Only Child. important people ♦ The Little Prince, Atticus Finch, Falstaff, Mr. Fox, Sherlock Holmes hometown ♦ Kennington, UK overall history ♦ Eddie grew up in a rather privileged home. His family was that of old money and haas certain luxuries afforded with the lifestyle. There were maids, butlers, nannies- the whole nine yards. When Eddie was around three, his gift began to show. This was discovered by a poor maid being chased by Curious George, while Ed looks on laughing, clapping his hands. At first everyone had assumed it was a freak accident, a monkey escaping the zoo or what-have-you. But then one day when Eddie had slipped the jam, letters began flying off the kitchen cookbook and swirling around the bits of broken glass. That cook was fired. His parents chalked it up to her being balmy. Because something like that just wasn't possible. It was ludicrous to even suggest...
More strange incidents followed Eddie through his youth. He was terrified of his gift but couldn't seem to control it. The local school children were talking too. None of them wanted to play with him, and for good reason. Long John Silver was his personal body guard. When Eddie could take the loneliness no longer, he confronted his parents and showed them his abilities. His mother went stark white and refused to say a word for several months. Whereas, his father enlisted him for doctor after doctor and treatments ranging from electroshock therapy to hypnosis to narcotics.
At the age of eighteen, Eddie ran away. Booked a one way ticket for the Americas and hasn't spoken to his parents since. He now teaches at Primrose and tends to keep to himself.
