Euphemia Louise Morgan
the basics
full name ♦ Euphemia Louise Morgan nicknames ♦ Eppie, Eppie Louise age ♦ twenty-nine birthday ♦ January 8th, 1990 occupation ♦ English teacher, Phalanx school ♦ graduated college from LSU, teaches at Phalanx House species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Psychometry how the ability works ♦ Eppie Morgan has been gifted with psychometry. For her, this means that, by being in a certain location or touching certain objects, she gets glimpses of their pasts. For places, these usually play out in scenes around her. For objects, they are more like snatches or snippets of dialog, looks, flashes of images. The more emotionally-driven the history, the more she can pick up on it. Her power has limited affect with people but only when she is around a large volume of them, then the floodgates open to more emotions or vignettes that pass with break-neck speed. She has learned ways to block these out of her head over the years, but she still prefers smaller crowds, where she has the most control. The headaches and other symptoms that once accompanied her power have mostly been smoothed out, but these still flare up when emotions have run high somewhere or with someone. The physically and emotionally closer she is to someone, the more clearly she can see of them, though she tries her best not to pry. She fully embraces old places and objects, which is good considering the deep age of most things in the Deep South. gender ♦ woman, she/her sexuality ♦ Pansexual
the appearance
face claim ♦ Ashley Graham height and weight ♦ 5'9" and 201 lbs identifying features ♦ her ears are pierced and that's about it overall appearance ♦ Eppie Morgan is taller than most women, but this does not stop here from occasionally wearing booties or short heels to make her taller. These are usually worn with jeans and a graphic t-shirt or sweater, something light and easy for when she’s not teaching or in professional mode. Her ever-present curves tend to be a little more covered up in the classroom, with simple sundresses that she can wear all year long in the warmth of Louisiana or the occasional pair of slacks and loose blouses. She definitely prefers to be a bit more relaxed when off the clock. Her hair often hangs in a shaggy lob to her shoulders, and the color is her natural, warm brown, the same color as her eyes. This seems to combine with her full lips and soft features to give her a kindly yet striking appearance. She accentuates this with a smile, as often as she can.
the personality
likes ♦ reading, old buildings, teaching, writing, antiques dislikes ♦ crowds, oppression, loud people/places/things, being lied to, strengths ♦ intelligent, confident in herself and her power weaknesses ♦ tends to be isolating, can be a little bit of a fuddy-duddy, dreams ♦ to meet her mother and to see her live a good, normal life (preferably outside of Monroeville) fears ♦ of being alone forever, no matter how much it seems that is what she desires overall personality ♦ Eppie is a quiet woman, having grown up as a quiet child. She much preferred the company of books than the company of other children, who represented an element of chaos in her life. Always a little more mature than her peers, Eppie felt a bit out of place growing up, as if she were an old soul trapped in a young body. This has lasted well into adulthood, and by ten on most nights, Eppie can be found in her apartment, already in her pajamas. She knows how to have fun, but her version tends to differ from most. A good book or movie is time (and money) better spent to her than the best night “out on the town.” This quietude makes her a dedicated teacher, but it can lead unperceiving people to see her as rather meek, which could not be far from the truth.
Eppie may be quiet, but she can make a statement when she pleases to. She can be quite stubborn when pushed too heavily, and though she does not prefer to, she has been known to fight like a dog with a bone for what she believes is right. That was what attracted her to Phalanx House to begin with; she could agree with their mission more than she ever could with Primrose’s. She believes in sticking up for the little guy and for not accepting oppressive regimes or ideals. Those who get to know the woman often find a bit of a different side: someone who is funny, genuine, who can act as a rock even as the rest of the world tips.
the history
father ♦ Unknown mother ♦ Philomena Morgan, 46 (deceased), in Monroeville siblings ♦ none important people ♦ Raised by her maternal grandparents (Ana and Louis Morgan), the people of Phalanx hometown ♦ Heather, Louisiana (northwest) overall history ♦ Philomena Morgan was a troubled soul, ever since she developed her power at the age of sixteen. She did many unsavory things to quiet the thrum in her mind, but nothing lasted but the repercussions of her bad choices. Her parents, mildly powered middle class citizens, tried their best to keep their daughter out of Monroeville, but her behavior and power constantly spiraled. In her quest, Mena disappeared after her eighteenth birthday, only to return home with a newborn in tow. The Morgans gladly took in both their daughter and granddaughter, but Mena’s troubles, the constant headaches, and her paranoid dispositions seemed to have only multiplied in her year away. When Mena’s power started projecting outwards, the Morgans stepped in, took full custody of the infant Eppie, and signed their only child away to Monroeville.
With Ana and Louis Morgan, Eppie enjoyed a relatively normal childhood, not knowing they were truly her grandparents. Advertising man Louis possessed a mild form of telekinesis and stay-at-home writer Ana had a low-level empathy, neither of which affected them the way Mena’s telepathy had affected her. Their light abilities, combined with their middle class status, allowed them a bit of nice anonymity and veiled acceptance in the small town they moved to after gaining full custody. They passed Eppie off as their daughter with ease, as both looked young enough to conceivably have such a young daughter, and no one ever thought the wiser.
Eppie was a late bloomer with many things; her power was no exception. Her power only began to manifest at age fifteen, when she began to complain of strange dreams and startling headaches when coming into contact with certain objects or people. In a panic, the Morgans squeezed their finances and called in a power sensor, who confirmed that Eppie’s power was mental-based. Thankfully, they were told, it was psychometry, and with a lot of work (and a lot of money transferred), Eppie was able to learn the broad strokes of her power while also enjoying a relatively “normal” life in Heather. Still, Eppie was not told the truth of her mother.
For college, Eppie moved further south and attended LSU, where she majored in English. Upon graduation, she stayed in BR and did freelance writing as well as teaching in the local schools. It was there that she began to investigate her own origins, and though it took her nearly six years, she found out the truth. She found out about Primrose Academy, which led her further to Phalanx House and finally to Monroeville Hospital. It was on an old patient document in her granparents' attic that she found her mother’s name, along with Monroeville's, and it took some pressing but her grandparents finally told her the whole story.
Wanting to get close to her mother, Eppie put in an application to work at Phalanx House, though she did not expect much. It took a while, but her application was accepted. She moved further south in the summer of 2018, to start with the new school year. She has spent the months since trying to figure out how to go about meeting her mother while also trying to adjust to life among a mostly supernatural population. New Orleans is definitely not Heather, and the transition has been an interesting one for Eppie Morgan.
