It was Valentine's Day which made this all the more difficult. This was lame-- this was so lame and he was going to get dumped for it. Doubt flooded his mind as he prepared everything. He really wanted it to be nice. This was the first Valentine's Day when he actually had someone he wanted to celebrate with. He didn't want to mess it up.
The everything consisted of a Taco Bell dinner on a picnic table out in the grounds and a little candle in the center. If he had any ounce of artistic talent he'd have drawn her some cute thing with a wolf... but he didn't... so he didn't. He was pacing and hoping that this would be enough.
He went to her room, having planned to hang out but not having gone into much detail. He knocked on her door and grinned, waving when she opened. "Hey! Uh... I have a surprise for you!" he announced eagerly. "Wanna come for a walk?"
He led her down the halls of Phalanx and out to the picnic table, taking in a breath. "I got you your favorite Taco Bell order!" he announced proudly, gesturing toward it as his nerves jumped.
He pulled a necklace out of his pocket, a small wolf charm dangling from a silver chain. "I saw this and thought of you," he said, holding it out to her. It wasn't the most expensive, sophisticated piece of jewelry, but it was the thought that counted, right?
"So, uh," he continued, rocking back and forth on his heels. "Would you... maybe... want to be my girlfriend?"

It was the first Valentine’s Day that Asha had spent at Phalanx where she actually felt a genuine connection with someone. She wasn’t going to curl up in the living room and watch cheesy rom-com movies while laughing her ass off and internally wishing that she had someone who cared about her enough to John Cusack outside of the house and hold a boombox over their head blasting Peter Gabriel.
It was a notion that she had considered to be fantasy - until she and Jude started casually seeing one another. They found ways to spend time together in small ways, usually in the form of Taco Bell dates and taking a trip to the coast for the day where they could just relax. Asha was never concerned about what they were doing, as long as they were together. Admittedly, there was a part of her that wondered exactly where they stood but, for the most part, she figured that it went without saying.
So when Jude arrived at the door to the room that she shared with Cora, the blonde was surprised. ”A surprise?” Green eyes lit up as a smile dimpled her cheeks. ”Yeah, of course!” She would have gone for a walk with him even if a surprise hadn’t been involved, but her curiosity had been piqued and that meant that going for a walk was absolutely necessary.
Moving down the halls and down the stairs before stepping into the outside, Asha took in a refreshing breath before her gaze fell towards the picnic table that Jude had gestured to. ”Oh! Jude, that’s so sweet,” she said brightly, turning her gaze from the table towards him - only to be met with the gleam of a silver chain and the charm that was dangling from it.
An audible gasp fell from her lips as she looked back up to him. ”I love it,” she said, reaching out to take the necklace, her fingers brushing over the geometric patterns. Pulling her hair aside, Asha lifted up either side of the necklace and pulled it around her neck before clasping it.
”...be my girlfriend?”
The blonde froze and, ever so slowly, her gaze rose to look at the boy across from her. ”For real?” There was a nervousness in the question, an uncertainty that she hated to hear. ”I… yes, of course,” she quickly said, reaching out for his hand. ”Definitely.”

he wasn't surprised that asha had been eager to see what he was planning. what he'd been worried about was the actual act of asking her out-- the putting himself out there while risking crippling rejection. would she want to agree to take on a label? in his opinion, it was a big deal. and so every fiber of his being was telling him that asha would have preferred not to. for a plethora of reasons.
he was glad that he was wrong.
he grinned, hugging her and bouncing on his heals. "oh, cool, thanks," he said, and then he was mortified. how was he supposed to respond to her saying yes?
he didn't have a clue, but it definitely wasn't "cool, thanks."
"i've never had a girlfriend, i'm sorry," he rushed out, flushing as his nervousness produced an awkward chuckle. "i'm super pumped, really. i mean, thank you. this is awesome." he took her hand and went to take a seat.
"i'm sorry this isn't some cool crazy thing but... i just... like hanging out with you? so i just wanted us to be able to... hang out." sometimes going out brought added pressure. he didn't need the company of other people. for this occasion, he just wanted to be with asha.
"i just like spending time with you. you're really cool, asha."
he needed to stop talking, probably. it wasn't a strong point of his.
"so, uh, you and mr. perona get along well, right?" he asked lightly.
