It was a beautiful day in the Quarter, requiring Asha only to slip on a light hoodie when she left the house that afternoon with only one direction in mind. She was in need of some time out of Phalanx and, since her best friend was not presently there anyway, that left only place for the blonde to go. The Quarter Café was something of a hangout spot, given the fact that Cora and Jude both happened to work there. The three of them were thick as thieves and Asha continuously found herself wondering how she had been so lucky to have them in her lives. She had been nervous about attending a school - a place that she didn’t even technically have to be because she had her parents to help her through everything and knew that they would ensure that she didn’t sprout fur at an inopportune moment.
However, Asha believed in the cause that Astor was striving towards and, with Sirius going as well, Phalanx seemed like the thing that was necessary to actually be close to the people that she loved. Family was one of the most important things, as Hector and Dorothy had repeatedly told their children; she wasn’t Astor’s mother by blood, but she was his mother nonetheless. She was the only one that any of them had ever known and she helped to make the family what they were. Asha knew that she was fortunate to have her entire family close enough that she could realistically visit them whenever she wanted to, regardless of what might have been going on in her life. There was also the fact that the eldest Peronas were regularly at Phalanx house and therefore knew most of the students that were always around. Yeah, she considered herself lucky.
Weaving her way through the crowded streets, her hands stuffed into the pockets of the hoodie, her feet carrying her forward with a purpose. The Café wasn’t that far away from where Phalanx was, though even if it had been further, Asha would have probably walked there. Staying active was something that she found to be relaxing and often found that it was the best way to get around the city and appreciate what she found there. As the building came into view, she slowed down her pace as the crowds only seemed to grow congested. Leading with her shoulder, she pushed through them until she finally came out before her destination.
Pausing in front of the building, she pulled her sleeve up slightly to see how many steps she had taken before dropping the clothing back into place and pulling the door open. A bell sounded, announcing her arrival to everyone that was present, but the only one up front that mattered had a flash of blue hair. ”Hey Cor,” she said, moving up to the presently empty counter. ”Sirius about?” Asha knew that her brother worked that day and, the indication from her best friend that he was in the back had the blonde grinning and skirting around the back. ”Hey, trouble,” she offered as her brother came into view, green eyes scanning over the goods that he was working on.

Sirius loved his job. For the most part, he came in for the morning shift and was done by the early afternoon, which meant that the rest of his day was his to do whatever he wanted to do. It was a nice little set up, since it meant that most of his Primrose friends—most of whom didn’t wake up until the afternoon on the weekends anyways—would finally be ready to hang out, and even if they weren’t, enough places were starting to get busy enough that he could lose himself in the crowd. Today, however, he had come in for the afternoon shift, adjusting solely because he had been asked too and he had nothing else going on. Last night, however, had been the kind of night that had consisted of a lot of things that he shouldn’t be doing because of his age, and sleeping in had really been the best thing for him. That and some damn water.
So, instead of his usual morning routine, Sirius had rolled out of bed at 11 am, gotten ready for work, and had been there since about noon. Of course, because he hadn’t been working that morning, most of the cleanup hadn’t been done, which meant that he was already in a sour mood, but he set to work nonetheless, cleaning up after his coworkers before getting started on baking for the afternoon shift, as well as prepping things for the morning so that they could come in to things actually being unfrosted and ready to go. More than once he had worked a morning shift where that hadn’t happened, and he knew well the panic that would set in if they came in the next morning and the breakout wasn’t done. In fact, the last guy that had done that had been fired, and since he actually really liked his job, well, he wasn’t going to push it.
He had been at work for a few hours when someone stepped back into the kitchen, and since he was used to that, he didn’t even look up until he heard a very familiar voice. The second that he looked up and saw his sister standing in the room, he knew that it had been Cora who had let her back there, and he grinned at her. “Hey small fry.” Were he closer, and not actively working on rolling out pastry dough, he would have ruffled her hair, but the thought of a customer finding a very long, blonde hair in their pastry was more than enough to stop him. Despite the reputation that he had gained of not caring about anything, Sirius took pride in the work that he did back in this bakery, and he didn’t really care if that made him a loser or not.
“If you’re gonna stay back here and hang out with me, that’s fine, but I need to you put on one of those.” He jerked his head towards the box of hair nets used by the female bakers. “And yes, I’m serious.” He realized too late that he had set himself up for the perfect pun for his name, but honestly hearing them from Asha didn’t exactly bother him. After all, she was his little sister, and he had heard her teasing remarks about his name from the time that she was old enough to figure out how damn hilarious it was. Not that he found them funny anymore, but she did and that was what mattered. He folded the dough again, grabbing the rolling pin and rolling it out flat, trying to get more layers into the flaky pastry. “So what brings you down here? There’s some scrap pieces over there if you want to snack on something. Don’t worry, I won’t tell.” He grinned again, waiting for his sister to answer as he worked, not even having to watch what he was doing.

Truth be told, being at Phalanx often felt like a bit of a vacation. Astrid found herself incredibly grateful that she didn’t have to deal with the typical world of academia that she knew many teens actually had to go through. While it was true that she was still learning and getting an education, it was in a setting that allowed her to be a lot more comfortable. It also provided students with a safe space and when the world got to be too much, they were excused without any questions. Was that the perk of being in a smaller setting or was it because of the fact that the school was literally filled with a bunch of kids that had very little control over their abilities? Asha supposed that it didn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. She considered herself blessed to be in a place that was full of her family - both biological and pseudo.
It was Phalanx that was letting her make her way to the Café where she could bother one of her favorite people in the world. It was funny to her how three of the most important people in her life all worked at the same place. Asha had found that it certainly made visiting them a lot easier because they often worked similar schedules. It was another reminder that she was really going to need to step up soon and get herself a job, even if it was something that was just temporary. The downside was that the littlest wolf wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do or what she would be able to handle. A part of her considered applying at her destination, especially now that she knew there was a vacancy with Aisling’s departure.
Asha leaned against the doorway for a moment, away from the food so that she wasn’t breaking too many safety violations. ”Y’know, jokes about a lady’s height are never something that makes you friends,” she quipped, fixating her brother with a look as he rolled out the pastry dough. If there was one thing that could be said about Sirius, it was that he didn’t joke around when it came to the baked goods that he put out for people to eat. It didn’t matter if it was at the bakery or at Phalanx for the rest of the kids. It certainly didn’t hurt that it was something he was really, really good at.
”SiriusLee~ Asha hummed as the pun left her lips. It was something that never got old for her and the fact that it drove her brother nuts made it that much more worthwhile. Skirting around the station he had set up, she tugged free a hair net from the box and carefully tucked her blonde strands up before moving to wash her hands. Glancing over her shoulder at him, she grinned when he offered her the scrap pieces that wouldn’t be put out for customers. ”You mean I need a reason to visit one of my favorite brothers?” The question came with a batting of her lashes before she broke out into a quiet fit of laughter before sobering up. ”If you must know, I’ve been out looking for a job.”
