Sebastian Graham Hallewell
the basics
full name ♦ Sebastian Graham Hallewell nicknames ♦ Bas/Bash age ♦ Twenty birthday ♦ November 9th, 1998 occupation ♦ Primrose student school ♦ Primrose species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Sonic Scream how the ability works ♦ Sebastian’s ability allows him to emit a very powerful and high pitched scream. This scream has the ability to knock over, destroy, or harm things in its path, though he can modulate the intensity of the scream with his vocal chords. In order to activate his sonic scream, his voice has to hit a certain pitch, which can be difficult post-puberty. This is also the reason that he has difficulty controlling his power at the moment; because practicing it can be very difficult. Prolonged use of his scream results in a lot of strain on his vocal chords, leaving his voice raspy or gone altogether. In addition to this, his ears provide no protection to his own scream as of yet, and if exposed to it for long periods of time, either through use or recording, his eardrums will rupture and bleed painfully. His scream is also limited by range, he can only have a physical effect on something if it is within ten feet of him. That being said, the proximity for an ear-shattering effect must be closer, within about five feet or so. gender ♦ Cis male | He/him/his sexuality ♦ Bisexual
the appearance
face claim ♦ Aaron Taylor-Johnson height and weight ♦ 5’11” | 180 lbs identifying features ♦ The only significant features that Seb has are a handful of scars on his body, mostly from injuries sustained playing soccer or doing stupid things with his friends. overall appearance ♦ Bash stands on the shorter side for a man, at least in his opinion, but is also incredibly fit and muscular. His hair is almost always kept longer on the top than it is on the sides, and is usually styled up. He keeps his face clean-shaven, and though he’ll never admit it, it gives him a bit of a gaunt appearance. He definitely comes from money, and he takes a certain amount of pride in his physical appearance, so he is rarely seen looking less than his best. Though his face is currently blemish-free, that hasn’t always been the case, though he’s pretty sure that he had most of the pictures from that time destroyed.
When it comes to his sense of fashion, Bash is rather particular. He prefers to dress well, the way that someone might expect someone of his stature to dress. Essentially, this means that he wears pretty much exclusively top of the line, though he will dip into lower-tier clothing when he deems it absolutely necessary. For the most part, he sticks with European designers, and has a slight disdain for America and their design moguls despite the fact that his parents chose to send him there, of all godforsaken places. This doesn’t mean that he’s never seen in jeans and a t-shirt, but if he is, you can guarantee that both were probably about as expensive as most people’s bimonthly grocery expenses.
the personality
likes ♦ -Being physically active -Soccer -His ability -Smoking -Rain -Cool temperatures -England dislikes ♦ -The heat -People who comment on his accent -The unknown -Top 40 music -Peanut butter -Horror movies -Louisiana strengths ♦ -Charming -Intelligent -Innovative -Physically strong weaknesses ♦ -A pretty face -Manipulative -Impulsive -Spoiled dreams ♦ -To return to England and to his parents’ good graces -To lose his ability fears ♦ -To get played by a girl -Heights overall personality ♦ If you looked up “posh British jerk” in the dictionary, it’s entirely possible that there would be a picture of Bash right there on the page as an example. He is a charming person, with a smooth tongue that has no problem using his accent to his advantage, and pretending not to hate it whenever whatever person he’s working on charming comments on it. He’s also a rather intelligent person, though his intelligence lies more in the area of working with people. He’s always had good social graces, and truth be told psychology is a field that has fascinated him greatly over the years. However, as the oldest sibling, he knows that it’s his responsibility to fall in line and go to work for the family business once he graduates from Primrose Academy.
There is a protective side to Bash as well, one that he typically reserves for his siblings and his family, though he will typically infantilize them just a bit. He chalks this up to being because he cares about them, but the fact of the matter is, he is protective over what he views as his, and doesn’t want to lose them to anybody or anything else.
Bash also really enjoys being in control of situations, particularly when it comes to romantic or social ones. He also is incredibly competitive, and passionate about winning. That’s part of what makes his little game with his friends so fun for him; the drive to actually win it instead of just playing to play it. There have been losses, and quite frankly he doesn’t handle them well, but those reactions are typically internal, as he’s not really one to display anger too readily, unless he’s around his friends. He finds it colors people’s perception of him in a way that is not in his favor.
the history
father ♦ Arthur Hallewell, 52, CEO of Riverbend Technology mother ♦ Lucille Hallewell, 49, socialite siblings ♦ Scarlett Hallewell, 20, adopted sister Prentice Hallewell, 17, brother important people ♦ -- hometown ♦ Virginia Water, Surrey, United Kingdom overall history ♦ November 9th, 1988. On this day, approximately 1,800 children are born in England and Wales. One of these people is a boy named Sebastian Hallewell. That’s right, my son, that boy is you. I swaddle and hold you tight, looking down at the son that I had wished was a daughter. You’re too young to notice your father isn’t there, but old enough to know that the warmth is both new and comfortable, somehow like the warmth you experienced before everything changed, but also very different. It takes a few days for your father to come and see you, and you are confused the first time he picks you up in his arms. But his hands are warm and his deep, booming voice is familiar, and you fall asleep to the sound of voices around you, cooing about how much you look like him. And you do look like him. You’re too young to understand when I whisper to you in the night, telling you that I hope you don’t turn out like him, but you do. You’re just like him. Maybe a little more reckless, and a little less responsible, but you’re handsome, you’re charming, and you have the same exploitative mindset your father always did. Maybe you will do well with your father’s company, after all.
There are some things I can never tell you. I can never say it was wrong for your father to hit you for being a kid and making a mistake. I can’t say how much it killed me to hear you cry, and to stay away because I knew that going to you, comforting you, would make it worse for the both of us. I can’t tell you about the one time I did stand up to your father, and received the same slap you did, the same burning breath filled with your father’s favorite whiskey in my face.
It make sense that you would resent me after all of that, but it still stings when you start to push me away. I hope having another child will make it better, less lonely for you maybe, but your father treats Prentice far better than he ever treated you. There is competition between the two of you, as if one of you beating the other is going to make you more worthy of your father’s love. It never really seems to work, and I can see that frustrates you in the way that your jaw sets and your eyes tighten at the corners when you look down at the floor. You’re six when we move to Japan for seven years or so, and you’re seven when I tell your father I want to adopt a daughter. Your father agress, mostly because he thinks I’ll overlook his affairs if he gives me what I want this one time. We find a girl—she’s sweet and intelligent, and the world seems brighter when she smiles—from an orphanage in Seoul, and begin the process of adoption. With us, she gets a new name: Scarlett Hallewell. In her, I pour the hopes I had for your brother, that all of you will bond, and there’s something about her that makes that happen. She plays football with you, talks about history and battle strategy with your brother, and makes life a little easier for all of us.
You grow older and your powers begin to show. It starts subtly: you shouting makes the dog whine, and we can hear you clear across the house when you get upset. Eventually, it reaches a breaking point. I’ll never forget the look on your father’s face when you shattered the parlor windows. It’s full of fear at how destructive his son could be, and there’s a hint of something else there. Maybe some kind of respect. It wasn’t long after that your sister developed her gift—which was a surprise to say the least—and then your brother. It was through sheer luck that your father heard about Primrose Academy. A long time business partner of his had told him on a night when top shelf whiskey had long since loosened his tongue. Next thing I knew, you and your siblings were off to Primrose Academy, and your father and I moved back to England.
This is where things get hazy. My knowledge of your time at school is limited to what your teachers tell me, and what I hear on your oddly quiet social media. Either way, it’s not a stellar track record. You managed to graduate from your educational classes with average grades at best, but you don’t have a single bit of control over your ability. Your father and I worry you’re not focusing on your studies, that you’re distracted. Personally, I’m worried that you’re becoming cruel. When I asked you about a girl I knew you were dating, you were so dismissive and cold that you reminded me of your father. You’re poised to inherit everything, I just pray you’ve gotten at least a little of my compassion.
