full name ♦ Noah Blackspire nicknames ♦ N/A age ♦ Thirty birthday ♦ January 19th 1987 occupation ♦ Teacher - Math school ♦ Phalanx species ♦ Human ability/power ♦ Illusion (mental ability) how the ability works ♦ Noah posses the power to create illusions in the minds of others through transmitting and manipulating telepathic mental energies. Directly inheriting the power from his family, he has ample practice with his abilities and, to the excitement of his grandparents, seems rather gifted with this "false-sight". When it comes to these abilities, the general rule is that the stronger the illusion - or the more power it would take to overcome - the fewer people who can experience it and the closer the proximity he must maintain. The execution of his powers varies by technique, though it can be loosely categorized as followed.
Weak, general area illusions. The easiest illusions are the smallest, and do not need direct concentration to maintain. In a room of 10 people, for example, Noah could make it appear that a chair sits in the middle of the space. Upon inspection, anyone would see their hand go through the illusion, and know it was just that - a fake. However, the illusion itself is maintained through a subtle manipulation of mental signals generated and controlled by Noah's own mind, and thus any additional person who entered the room would themselves too see the chair, including those who Noah was not directly aware of.
Strong, localized illusions. These creations of the "false-sight" directly impact small groups of individuals. In order for them to be maintained and be their most convincing, Noah must both keep concentration and have initiated the illusion with the individuals in his site. These illusions can range from false landscapes, voices, to fake people and scenarios. With enough concentration, and time, Noah can create illusions-of-characters that can carry a conversation with someone under his sway, though the words of the illusion must be supplied by Noah himself.
Intense, individual illusions. The toughest and more difficult illusions that Noah can create specifically target just one individual, and Noah must be within 7 feet of that person for the illusion to last. These "false-sights" are so powerful that, at their strongest, can trick, the victims mind into rationalizing the illusion. The body creates weight, resistance, and even heat that isn't there in order to rectify the perception. One use, most used by his grandmother, is to create an illusion of torture - such as being tied to a heated metal chair. At best, these illusions can only last for minutes, and when the vanish so do any physical harm that had come to the body.
As long as Noah concentrates on his power, the illusion does not break. Victims of his power, once they realize what is going on, must purposely choose to ignore it or work around it. Knowing that the dog barking to you is an illusion doesn't stop its annoyance. The more complicated the illusion - the detail to scenery, the mixture of sound and smell and structure, and the more effort he must put in - such as generating conversations, the less other actions Noah can take. Concentrating on a complicated illusion takes up so much mental power that Noah can barely stand, let alone walk or run away. The overuse of his powers leads to splitting headaches and, in extreme cases, a loss of consciousness.

the appearance
face claim ♦ Hale Appleman height and weight ♦ 6ft and 182lbs identifying features ♦ Most often wears glasses overall appearance ♦ Generally scruffy and unkempt, Noah is a male of slightly above average height (6ft) whose presents with an aura of power and strength. While he is relatively fit, he is by no means buff or rugged. Rather, it is the grinning mouth paired with stern, never-yielding eyes that defines Noah's presence. His dark hair is naturally rich in volume and far too difficult to control, though it pairs nicely with his brown eyes and pointed nose. In terms of clothing, Noah is generally wrinkled and un-ironed, though the structure of his outfits suggests that at least some thought goes into putting it together.

overall personality ♦ Noah is distracted, interesting, and definitely doesn't hold himself to the same standard he holds others. Self-identifying as a moral authority, Noah constantly thinks himself right until proven - at least four times - otherwise. Often found with a grin but dis-interested eye, one cannot help but think that Noah is always preoccupied. With what - no one, not even him, ever really knows. Approachable, generally kind, and surprisingly outgoing and forward in speech, the man cannot help but make others notice him. On a more personal level, Noah is a lover of temptation and experimentation, and considers himself a constant companion to both guilt itself and guilty pleasures. The sin that matches him most is gluttony and pride.

Noah Blackspire was born into a family so old that they traced their ancestors not just back to the first few arrivals to the colonies of the "New World", but all the way back to the Normal invasion of Britain itself. It wasn't money and products that defined the life of his family; rather, it was power and influence that a Blackspire a Blackspire. Every generation, or so the stories told, played some part in some major moment of history. Never a president or general - no. Rather, the Blackspire history was filled with men and women who made plans, built inventions, negotiated treaties, and literally blazed trails.
This all meant for Noah that he never truly wanted for anything at all. Money was no issue - and while of course successfully parents meant busy parents, the young boy had the love and support of grandparents and family friends to keep him both sane and happy. Life, as it was, in California was warm, spoiled, and perfect for boyhood. Then, as these stories go, came the "false sight". His powers.
It was, of course, Noah's grandmother who first noticed the illusions the boy generated when he was 12. It was simple, she would recall, but good. Annoyed that video games ended at 7pm sharp, Noah had somehow managed to replace every clock in the house with an illusion - the same clock, just two hours earlier. And so the secret was out, and perhaps to quickly Noah was told of the family secret - that their family bloodline held the power of illusion, and that though it had skipped his father, it has manifested in Noah. From there it was understood that Noah would not attend school anymore, and that his grandmother would take over his education - both mental power and academic. She was a tough teacher - who more often than not ruled with an iron first - but learned he did.
The older Noah became the more of his family's legacy he came to understand. He mingled - yes, that would be the best word - with other empowered humans whose families were like his - and through them he learned whispers of dark secrets. That family success often came from the exploitation of powers, not true grit or wit. Slightly rebellious in his youth, Noah found this distasteful and dishonest. School sessions turned to moments of heated debate with family elders. He was called arrogant and moronic. He called them liars and sham artists. Both sides were correct.
When it came time for university, Noah found entrance and success in the studies of mathematics. Determined to prove his own worth, Noah poured himself into his studies. Yet, still, in the quiet night of dorm-rooms or in the drunken back alleys of college life, Noah found himself also practicing his powers; testing his own limits and pushing them. Though he loathed to admit it, the flexing of the mental muscles that triggered his powers felt too good to ignore. And so, through the simple rule that they only spoke about the "false-sight", Noah restored his relationship with his grandmother as he entered young adulthood.
Years after a rather successful career in mathematics, Noah heard, through connections, of the Phalanx Home. What better place, he thought, to be. A school that valued every person as a person, at least on the surface, and that didn't link powers with privilege.
