astrid isobel perona
the basics
full name ♦ Astrid Isobel Perona nicknames ♦ Asha age ♦ sixteen birthday ♦ June 21st, 2002 occupation ♦ student school ♦ Phalanx species ♦ Shapeshifter ability/power ♦ Shapeshifter (wolf) how the ability works ♦ Astrid is able to change her form at will into an animal counterpart. Falling in line with the rest of her family, she takes the form of a wolf, white in color. While her changes are usually somewhat easy to manage, she finds herself feeling worn out afterward and often requires a moment of rest in order to recover her senses and readapt to a “new” body. The amount of time that she can hold this form varies based on what she happens to be doing, but it typically lasts for a few hours without any additional stress factors. After returning back to her human form, Astrid suffers from being physically and mentally drained, causing a serious emotional backlash. This can vary from snapping easily on people to becoming withdrawn as she recovers. Her shifts can also be caused by a heavy emotional strain. The more time that Astrid spends in her wolf form, the more difficult it is to turn back and there’s always a fear that one day the change will become permanent.
face claim ♦ Dove Cameron height and weight ♦ 5’2 & 115lbs identifying features ♦ Astrid has her ears pierced, but otherwise no markings to speak of. overall appearance ♦ Lean and fit is the best way to describe Asha. She’s only five foot two, but she’s a spry young woman who frequently works out in order to maintain her physique. Her hair is naturally a darker blonde, but she often keeps it lighter and it varies from being pulled back or hanging loosely around her shoulders in order to frame her naturally high cheekbones. Astrid’s eyes, green in color, almost seem to dance with gold in certain lighting, though this turns completely gold when she is in her wolf form. Much of her choice of dress is comfy casual, though she’s not opposed to dressing in a few questionable choices in order to get a rise out of her older brother. Still, she doesn’t leave the house looking like an easy catch - and not just because her brother would murder her otherwise. Fancy clothes don’t suit her, but she’ll dress nice when the occasion calls for it.
the personality
likes ♦ Astor + tormenting him Phalanx Running (in both forms) Beignets Sunsets
dislikes ♦ Monroeville Not being able to run Being told what to do Disrespect towards her family Drunks
strengths ♦ Physically strong Agile Manipulative weaknesses ♦ Stubborn Pushing boundaries Her family
dreams ♦ Astrid wants to make her family proud. She wants to do something important with her life like Astor did. fears ♦ Ending up in Monroeville. Losing her family. Permanently becoming a wolf.
overall personality ♦ Astrid is someone who isn’t entirely sure what she wants out of life and isn’t sure how to figure it out, either. There are aspects that she has sorted out, but for the most part, she is content living in the now instead of planning for a future. Asha enjoys pushing the boundaries of people, bumping against those edges and seeing just how far she can get under someone’s skin until they’re threatening to snap right open. She’s hypocritical in that sense, as she’s prone to lashing out if someone gives her the same treatment. She tries not to let things get under her skin too much, but at the end of the day, she’s still a teenager with high emotions and she doesn’t always know how to channel them properly.
Astrid is extremely protective of her family, which encompasses everyone that she happens to know at Phalanx. She would do anything to help keep them safe, even if it happens to be something that could put her own person in danger. While she can have a one-track mind, she tries to hear all sides of a story before making up any sort of decisions and though she doesn’t enjoy it, she understands that her way isn’t always the best or right way to go about things. In spite of how much grief she gives her eldest brother, Astrid adores him and would go to bat for him any day or time necessary. Her passion for people is something that keeps her going, regardless of how she feels on a given day.
the history
father ♦ Hector ___ Perona, 58, runs a bar mother ♦ Dorothy ___ Perona, 56, runs a bar siblings ♦ Astor Oliver Perona , 35, half-brother, Phalanx founder ___ ___, 18, brother important people ♦ N/A hometown ♦ New Orleans, Louisiana overall history ♦ Hector Perona had two sons when he finally welcomed a daughter into the world. Astrid was his third child, but second with his current relationship and from very early on the child had him wrapped around her dainty little finger. It was as though she could do no wrong in the eyes of her parents and, when she was three years old, her eldest brother was finally released from Monroeville where he had been sent in order to get a grip on his shifting ability. It was understood within the family that there was a high chance that all of the children would turn into an animal at some point, though it was possible for a different ability to manifest as well as Dorothy herself wasn’t a shifter.
Astrid was six when her first sign of her bloodline manifested in the amber glow of eyes in the dark. She understood that this meant a future of difficulty for her and a long time trying to get control of the two natures that would battle for dominance in her. Her father and older brothers were there to help along the way with any questions that she had, but it was a lot of biding her time until the day would come when her human shape would be left behind for a different one. The sense of family within the Perona clan was something that was more than skin-deep and the knowledge that they were all there to support one another regardless of what might have happened was the thing that gave Astrid the courage to ask the questions that burned her mind.
It wasn’t until she was nearly thirteen that she experienced her first shift. The pain is the only thing that she can remember to this day, the feeling of her bones snapping and reshaping into something entirely more canine than human. There was a blissful darkness that took over after that and the next thing Astrid was able to remember was waking up in her own bed, feeling like she had just been run over by a truck. Things would only be more difficult for her as she attempted to gain control over this more animalistic side of her, including the temper that seemed to come with it. It seemed as though some of the smallest things would set her off and so she started to build the walls up around her, trying to alleviate the pain that came with a sudden shift brought on by emotions. Realizing that she needed more help learning how to control this new ability and making things easier for herself, she joined Phalanx under the watchful eyes of her eldest brother.
In the years since, Astrid has started to manage to get some sort of control of her shifts and no longer finds them as unpredictable and painful as they previously were. Unfortunately, being under the thumb of her brother for so long has caused her to find ways to seek enjoyment from his torment by her own hands. Astrid likes to tease and taunt and tempt, but much of it is to see just how far she can push the boundaries of her eldest brother. In spite of that, she’s actually quite a good student and has taken to being one of the faces that welcomes new arrivals at Phalanx and befriending them at a time when they really need a friend.
