Five days. That's how long Renny had officially been out of the military. It all felt so strange - not having to wake up before the sun, not having to put on that uniform, not being told what to do every second of every day. It was freedom, and it was terrifying.
Renny had already been to see her best friend Josh - that was a pleasant visit, and a kickass surprise on her part. She'd kept it a secret ever since she decided she had wanted to move to New Orleans and be closer to Josh. He wasn't a deciding factor by any means, just a nice plus that he's there, too. The house in Portland still had too many memories of her dad, and what Renny was really looking for was a fresh start. Cajun food was delicious, so here she landed. Renny's decision making process was not very extensive.
Smash! by Starbomb was playing loudly in Renny's headphones; she was mouthing the words along with the song while she was doing her last set of weighted pull ups. A chain with a 45lbs plate was tied around her waist to make the set more strenuous. The atmosphere inside the gym was nice - not at all sandy like the makeshift ones Renny was used to in the desert. She could appreciate the fact that she wasn't inhaling hair dryer heat with every breath, and air conditioning was no longer an unavailable luxury. Honestly, she could get used to this life pretty quickly.
Finishing her final set, Renny dropped to the ground from the pull up bar, already having a tight feeling in her arms. That was it for her warmup. Renny took off the extra weight and reracked the plate. She took her tone stretching and going to refill her water bottle. Today was chest and tris - which meant bench press was first on her to-do list. The woman hungrily gulped at her water - it never seemed this cold in Afghanistan - and looked around for an open bench. It seemed that everyone else had the same idea she had, as all of the benches were taken up by partners working out together. There was one bench that had a solitary woman on it. She looked as if she was in mid-set with no spotter in sight. Being the person Renny is, she easily walked over to the woman, while sliding off her headphones, and smiled at her.
"Need a spotter?" She asked, hands already under (but not touching) the bar the blonde haired woman was working on.
