Open | Come play with JJ!
JJ huffed as she walked into her room and saw that it was still in disarray. She’d meant to clean it, she really had, but there was something about the actual cleaning aspect that just sounded so… boring. So mundane. She could absolutely spend her time doing just about anything else that would be so much more interesting. Cleaning her room sounded like about as much fun as going to class, and god knew that she hated doing that. Well, god and her teachers if her marks were any indication. She had long since aged out of her classes, and all that was left were the ones that surrounded ability training. Personally? She thought she had a pretty damn good handle on her ability, it was her inability to produce her little replicates when she was under a certain amount of pressure that got her instructors’ panties all in a twist.
As far as she was concerned? Not her problem.
JJ kicked off her shoes and dropped her bag on the floor by her desk, before flopping back on her bed and staring up at the ceiling. Closing her eyes, she concentrated, hard, and when she opened her eyes again, a perfect replicate of herself stood before her. All it took was a mental command down some kind of line of communication that existed between the two of them, and the replicate rolled her eyes so convincingly that even JJ wasn’t sure if she was real or the replicate, before the copy turned around and started cleaning her room.
Reaching into her pocket, JJ grabbed out her phone and her headphones, stuffing the buds in her ears and turning the volume up. She didn’t want to hear anything, or think about anything other than the light concentration on keeping the walking photocopy of herself in existence. Beyonce filtered through her earbuds, and she switched to the next song in her list. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Queen Bey, but right about now she was in the mood for something a little different. She kept swiping through her music choices, until she landed on something that was both bright and mellow at the same time, something that made her feel chilled out without putting her to sleep. After all, she needed to stay awake in order to keep her replicate cleaning, and she wasn’t about to clean her room by herself if she didn’t have to. Halsey’s chords filtered through her headphones, and she closed her eyes again, almost losing herself in the music.
A knock sounded at her door, and the replicate set down her hamper before making her way over to the door. JJ waited long enough for the copy of herself to open it before sitting up, and dismissing it with nothing more than a thought. She reached up, popping out her earbuds with a jerk on the cord and a snap of her bubblegum, winding up the wires in her hand so that they wouldn’t get too tangled. “Hey.” She said simply, setting her headphones on her bedside table and tucking her phone into her pocket. “This for business or is it a social call?” She arched her eyebrow, looking at the person standing in her doorway. She needed to know the answer in order to continue, because if this was business she wasn’t about to sit and make pleasantries while they stood in her door like the world’s most awkward person.

Another rather fruitless session with Joshua Eliot Holmes had Nova simmering just beneath the skin. Learning about dead people wasn’t exactly the sort of thing that she wanted to spend her time doing - unless it involved breaking into a mausoleum in the dead of night, but that was another thing entirely. Unfortunately the class was deemed as a necessity if she was going to find her way out of Primrose one day and not have to worry about a general education coming on her ass for the things that she didn’t give a shit about. The only benefit to the class, and to the extra lessons, was the fact that she got to look at Josh and make him wildly uncomfortable. He was attractive and she knew it; hell, anyone with eyes would be able to figure that out.
Still, it took time away from recreational activities and a general social life that she would have rather had going on. There were kids lower on the social scale that attempted to snicker about the fact that she was taking extra lessons, but it was nothing that a swift reminder in the form of a bucket’s worth of water falling over their heads couldn’t fix. After all, Nova was the one spending time with the attractive history teacher. It was Nova that was determined to make the Academy whisper about the things that could have been going on behind closed doors with the Primrose Princess and her tutor. Of course nothing was; he was too old for Nova and she was very aware that he felt she was too young, but she loved to make a man squirm.
Turning down the hall to her dorm - the one she shared with someone that really needed a better fucking sleep schedule - Nova paused, eyes flittering towards another familiar door. A thoughtful hum sounded low in her throat as she considered her options. It was possible that Margrave wasn’t in their room, possible that she could actually get something done… But the possibility was much higher that aforementioned roommate was in their dorm and was aggressively bitching at someone on the other end of a headset. It was more than what Nova wanted to deal with at the moment and the thought alone drew a heavy sigh from her.
Instead, she turned to face the door that was before her and lifted her hand, knuckles rapping just loud enough to draw the attention of someone if they were inside. Rolling onto the balls of her feet, Nova rubbed her hands almost nervously down her jeans before flicking her eyes up, first to one person and then the other as the first disappeared. A slow smile formed over her lips as she looked over at the older girl. ”Does it really matter?” Her smile grew a small fraction before shrugging. ”Social, I suppose. You free?”
JJ had a very low tolerance for drama. To be quite frank, she didn’t care if person A didn’t like person B and didn’t want her anywhere near them because they were “friends”, so long as person A and person B didn’t try to undercut her or get her in trouble with anybody, she didn’t really give a damn one way or the other. Sure, that mindset might have made her a few enemies in the past, but eventually everybody got over themselves and realized that if they wanted their recreational euphoria, she was the only truly safe outlet to get it from. And if they didn’t like it? Well, they could venture out into good old New Orleans back alleys and hope to get something from someone who wouldn’t take advantage of their name or social stature, and who wouldn’t give them something that could kill them just for the hell of it.
For obvious reasons, most people chose to get over their petty little bullshit issues with her. Apparently their safety was more important than their dramatic feuds; shocker.
JJ tilted her head to the side as she regarded Nova. She knew plenty about the younger Pennbrook sister, including some bullshit rumor that she was getting Professor Holmes all hot under the collar, but it was nothing too damning. Still, she could tell by the wicked gleam in the younger girl’s eye that she was probably destined to become a queen bee just like her older sister, and while that fact disappointed her a little, she knew that was simply the way life was for most people. Lyric, on the other hand, came with her own fair share of feuds and people who hated her, and while she made it very clear that she didn’t cater to social status when it came to her little empire, there were still times when it came right to her doorstep. How annoying.
In spite of her better judgement, JJ found herself growing somewhat fond of Nova. She didn’t know why, perhaps it was her sharp tongue, or maybe the cutthroat way that she seemed to go through life, but there was something in there, some kind of rebellious spark, that she enjoyed. It was really for that reason, and that reason alone, that she didn’t mind spending time with the younger girl outside of their occasional business transactions, sworn to secrecy to keep the Big Sister from noticing, of course.
“Of course it does, I don’t usually bother with politeness with business calls.” JJ quirked her eyebrow, as if suggesting that the younger girl should really have known her better than that by now. Still, she scooted back on her bed, as Nova mentioned that this was a social call. “For the moment, though even if I wasn’t I’d be happy to clear my schedule for you, little Pennbrook.” She smiled impishly, leaning back against the pillows propped up on her headboard. “Come on in and close the door behind you, unless you want all the little birds of Primrose Academy sharing your secrets.” She felt her phone buzz in her pocket, and pulled it out long enough to put it on silent before shoving it back where it belonged. She was much more interested in the situation that was unfolding here than she was in talking to some tweaked out Academy student with more money than sense. “Have a seat anywhere you like, the roommate is gone, probably for the night.” She straightened up slightly, propping her elbows on her knees as she regarded the younger of the two Pennbrook sisters. “So, Supernova, what do you have on your mind, hmm?”

There were very few people that were able to ease their way beyond the walls of posterity that Nova had built around herself. She was a Pennbrook and with that came a notoriety that she came from money and that she wasn’t someone that would tolerate being fucked with. She and Lyric knew how to hold their heads high and give as good as someone tried to give them. There was seldom a time that they didn’t come out on top and yet that didn’t always seem good enough for Nova. She was someone that thrived on drama, but the people that she cared about were always left off of her tongue. She would never talk about Lyric or the group of friends she maintained. Just as she would never talk about the girl before her that she knew offered her classmates a way to escape reality for a period of time.
JJ was someone that didn’t tolerate bullshit and it was one of the things that Nova admired about her. Of course the older girl didn’t need to resort to gossip to destroy someone; she simply had to stop supplying them with their drug of choice. JJ held more power over the school than a vast majority of people and Nova was not among those that were too blind to see it. It was part of the reason that she was grateful to have managed to get into JJ’s good graces, something that it almost felt like too few people were able to do. But of course Nova wasn’t here to purchase wares for herself - at least not this time around. The fact of the matter was that she enjoyed the company. It was one of those rare occasions when she didn’t feel the need to offer the stony armour that she had built up around herself.
Nova leaned against the doorway as she watched the other girl shift back on the bed and up onto the pillows. ”I’m honored to receive such a welcoming~” A soft hum fell from her lips, but it wasn’t until she was properly invited in that she crossed the threshold, already closing the door behind her when the warning came up. The last thing she needed was gossip spreading like wildfire that could tarnish her reputation or, perhaps more importantly, that of her sister. What would the masses have to say that the littlest Pennbrook was spending time behind closed doors with the resident dealer? Crossing over to JJ’s bed, she carefully deposited herself upon it, shifting to look at the other girl.
”I’m attempting to avoid going back to my room at the moment,” she admitted, idly playing with the ends of her hair as she spoke. ”I’m not sure how many more restless nights I’m able to handle with Margrave.” If it weren't for the fact that she found her roommate attractive, she probably would have put in a request to change rooms and get someone that actually kept some kind of normal schedule. ”And of course there’s the matter of Professor Holmes. I’m fairly certain he’s this close,” she said, pinching her thumb and index finger together, ”to calling my parents or something of the sort. Really, he’s just being dramatic.”
