Meme was fa-reaking the fuck out. Like... she'd turned into a cat who the fuck did that?

Fucking... her, apparently. Fucking great.

As if being nearly robbed hadn't been enough, she'd been manhandled which was fucking rude, and then she couldn't go home.

Because there was no way her rich ass parents were going to let a stray cat inside the house.

She'd been sitting outside her brother's place for seventeen minutes now, awkwardly trying to figure out what she was going to say. She'd gone missing just days before... it wasn't like he was going to just... not want to talk.

"Aarghh," she yelled, slamming her hands on her car's horn and then screaming in response to the loud honk.

Flustered, she got out of her car, gave it the middle finger, and stomped to Oliver's door.

She could have knocked once and he probably would have come to the door considering he was expecting her.

Did she knock once?

No.

She knocked fourteen times.

As soon as his door was open, she was walking in and pacing quickly. "Okay so there's this really weird thing and you have to swear not to tell anyone," she told him seriously. "I'm really freaked right now," she admitted, using her hands to talk so much that he was lucky she didn't knock something off of his wall.

She took in a deep breath. "Close your eyes. Now," she stressed.

Moments later, there was a cat sitting in front of him. Honestly she was relieved that she'd had enough control to do it but she was even more relieved when she turned back, catching her breath because damn that was not easy to do.

Meme was going to give him a fucking heart attack. She had been gone for days. Their parents hadn’t seen her, she wasn’t picking up the phone. She was missing long enough to warrant filling out a missing persons report. Which Oliver would know. Since that was kind of his job.

He had been insanely relieved when she finally called him, but she barely let him get a word in before hanging up the phone.

She was speaking. She was okay. They’d talk when she came over.

Or, more accurately, Meme would talk, frantically, while waving around her arms like one of those damn blow up figures outside of a car dealership, while he prayed to whatever deity was willing to listen to him for just a little more patience.

”Close your eyes. Now.” ”What?” he questioned, because that wasn’t a normal follow up to ‘we need to talk about something that’s freaking me out’.

But he figured it was better to just do it than try and pry and answer out of his sister and and he closed his eyes, opening them a moment later to reveal.. a cat, sitting down in the middle of his apartment.

”What the hell, Meme?” he questioned, almost annoyed. He looked around the room for her, trying to figure out how she’d pulled off this elaborate prank, or.. what the hell she wanted him to do with a cat and all of a sudden the cat was turning back into his sister.

Yeah, he jumped about twelve feet in the air.

”You just— what?” he stammered, eyes wide. ”You're a cat? What did I just see? How did you turn into a cat?”

Meme staggered to slip clothes back on, her face reddening as her brother reacted.... pretty much exactly how she'd expected. In hindsight it could have been so much worse, but it didn't feel like it in the moment. She didn't know what she'd wanted him to say or do... but it wasn't this.

"I don't know," she said incredulously, raising her hands in frustration.

"I don't know any more than you do about this," she clarified, wanting him to know that she was panicking and she didn't have answers. She wished that she did. Right now, she needed support.

She sat on his sofa, drawing her knees in and tearing up. "I was coming home from the French Quarter and some dude grabbed my arm and told me to give him money. And... I don't know. He went to hit me and I was running away and then I was a cat."

She wished the words hadn't left her lips the second she heard them for herself. "I'm not lying, or remembering wrong... or something," she added quickly before he could even think of a judgmental comment.

"And then I couldn't switch back," she added quietly. "And I wasn't going to come home like that." And she'd missed Oliver, more than anything, but she wasn't going to tell him that. It wasn't like it was his birthday or something.

"And I'm not a cat-- I turned into one," she snapped incredulously... because he'd said she was a cat and she was sitting there right then as a fucking human so she didn't want to think about not being one of those.

Oliver had panicked. He panicked because that was what any normal human would do when their sister turned into a fucking cat.

But he was a level headed person who dealt with crisis situations for a living, and he started calming down as it became clear that Meme was still Meme, and his sister didn’t know any more about what had happened than he did.

”I’m not lying, or remembering wrong..” ”Well, yeah. I’m not gonna say that now.” Had he not seen it for himself, he might have considered the possibility that she was lying to him (it wasn’t like that wasn’t the kind of shit she would normally pull). Realistically, he even would have been inclined to believe that she had been drugged or hit in the head by her attacker, to make her think something like that had taken place. But.. he saw it.

”This is like something out of a fucking movie.” he pointed out, shaking his head incredulously. He sat next to her on the couch, putting his arm around her shoulder and pulling her next to him. ”We’ll figure it out.” he said, seriously. He’d help her however he was able.

”Do you… remember what happens when you’re… a cat?” he asked, finishing his sentence tentatively. ”You still think the same way?” he clarified, trying to understand if it was something she was doing consciously or something that had been done to her. ”And it doesn’t hurt or anything? I mean.. where does the rest of you go?” Like Meme was multiple times the size of a cat.
