Things had been incredibly chaotic. People had lost touch and Eli hadn't had a phone in like fifteen years so finding Holden again had been a long and difficult process... as was everything else in his life at the moment. Being out of Monroeville was nothing but good, but that didn't mean he felt at home in Phalanx. He didn't talk to people and he certainly hadn't figured out how to live outside of that hellhole.
It took weeks before Ash had been able to make contact with Holden per Eli's request. He was surprised by his own enthusiasm as he made his way to the French Quarter to meet Holden, wearing a gray hoodie and black skinny jeans despite the afternoon's radiating heat.
He grinned when he caught sight of the man, unable to keep the grin from his face. They could do whatever they wanted. This was incredible.
"Hey," he greeted, resisting the urge to pull the man into a hug. God, he was beautiful. "I, uh... I'm glad we found you. Thanks for coming. I just... missed you," he admitted.
"Would you want to walk around? And... not get paid to make sure I get back to a bus on time?" It was crazy to think that their other interactions thus far had been in such an incredibly different setting.
"How have you been? Oh," he said, pulling a phone out of his pocket and chuckling as he looked through it. "Hey, do you know how many apps there are for, like, voice to text? And translating-- it's so cool."
